• The G200, Win2K, and the Kitchen Sink

I received the much awaited package from Microsoft: Windows 2000 RC2 *and* Beta 3, both in the Professional and Server flavors. Six CD's in total.

I suspect I'll go with Professional, unless someone has a compelling arguement to the contrary. (The machine will eventually function as a DSL server.)

My questions are should I go with RC2, which was my intention, or Beta 3, which came as a surprise. I intend to use my old Millenium G200, as it appears to be supported.

Am I missing something, or shall I just pop in the RC2 disk.

Any advice, by the way, will be appreciated.

I have just installed installed RC-2 Professional, and it worked fine with my g200. I am currently running at 1024x768x16 bit without a problem.
But I don't know if Direct X (7) is working or not, or how to get OPENGL up and running.

apart form that it is was recoognised and installed with out a hitch

RC2 is a later release than Beta 3, so that is the one you want to go with. No problems here running RC2 with a G200.

Matrox states the G200 drivers in RC2 support DX7, but there is no 3D (which is about 99% of what is interesting about DirectX).

No OpenGL either, so you will have absolutely no 3D acceration under W2K.

That's just the case with the G400 drivers.

              Tish,

This is a quote from the latest Matrox Newsletter:

              "* Windows 2000 DX7 G200 driver:
The latest beta release of Windows 2000 contains to most current build of
the G200 driver on the CD. Please use that included driver."

I have posted a screenshot of dxdiag under RC2
