Hey! Don't even go there with dissin' the Blair Witch Project!!! I find that most people who didn't like it failed to watch it in the way that it was supposed to be watched; like a documenatary. If you were looking for a hollywood horror film, then stick with Scream, but IMHO, the last shot in the movie is by far the scariest shot in cinemetographic history.

But, this is totally off topic, so I'm gonna shut up now.

Payback, Suicide Kings, The Matrix (get yerself an AC-3 decoder and a 5.1 speaker system - the movie's AMAZING in full Dolby Digital), The Big Hit (John Woo style), Alien collectors edition package (don't remember the name right now), Die Hard Trilogy.

I own Payback, Suicide Kings, and The Matrix. Watched The Big Hit on my friend's system. He and our other friend both like Die Hard and Aliens movies, so they have the DVD sets.

I usually play back DVDs through my Dxr3 card on the second machine (gaming on the first). The G400 does a good job, though. Just wish it was DirectShow compliant, so I could rip to VCD for my laptop (no DVD drive in the laptop).

      Just my $0.02

Forget about these new movies. Get Phantasm or Halloween(the first movie). This is where it all started. Phantasm comes w/a documentary and old interviews.

          Hi Xor'Arch

I get exactly the same problem with the region being locked to 1 (Region 1 DVD's play fine!).

I think I'm using the latest region selector.

Have you found a solution yet (other than reverting back to the Matrox supplied player)?

Even with the new Cinemaster I have some problems with The Matrix. I get a GPF when I wait for the main menu to end the background movie. With Follow the White Rabit it crashes after playing the after the scenes part.

            Anyone else have these problems?

O.K, I'm now working with Region 1 & 2 using the updated Cinemaster files (as linked previously in this thread) and Region Selector v2.20 Beta 3 from www.inmatrix.com.

              Hope this helps.....

                DON'T GET NON-ANAMORPHIC DVDs!!!

Don't shoot yourself in the foot right away.

Anamorphic DVDs (like The Matrix) have extra scan lines, so the picture is much better than regular TV or video tape resolution.

Older stuff isn't transfered in anamporhic format (usually). Go for newer DVDs, then add in old favorites. :-)

This is all moot if you're watching your DVDs on a real TV. I watch mine on my second 19" monitor, so I can really notice the difference.

Just a thought here, most TV's have between 250-350 lines resolution. The newer jumbo big screens have about 500. You won't be seeing true DVD quality until your setup is up to spec...

Hey. Old movies on DVD rock if done right. Have you seen the transfer they did for The Dark Crystal? I own that on VHS and it's so-so. But for DVD they did a whole new trasnfer that looks absolutly gorgeus.

Other good DVD flicks, The Mummy, The Matrix, Payback is cool. Contact is awesome. Also if ya like Anime, there are a lot of quality transfers out there. Best ones on that side are the Pioneer releases. Big hit is cool too. Aliens Directos cut is nice. FInally all the missing footage on a DVD, not a laserdisc (I never liked laserdisc's much myself).

Oh, and in case anybody cared, www.sehr.org has instructtions and helpfull links for ripping DVD's to VCD's so as to be able to watch them movies on the go. If ya just wanna be able to take them with you though, go for ASF, as a full movie is usually at a decent quality level under 400MB. Just takes a day or so to re-compress

                        Cool info here, guys, thanks.

                        IceStorm and Genom,

Thanks for the lists, I'll be sure to take a look.

                        ----off topic---

                        Larry,

The last time I got any feeling of fright in a movie was when I was in my early teens watching the movie, "The Thing" in the theatre when it first came out, that and "Poltergeist I" when I was around that age was scary in the theatre, "Salem's Lot" as a mini series on TV was scary. Pretty much drained of fright reflex from those days I think, all I get today is startled when something sudden happens, no thinking about the movie later wondering if the boogeyman is going to get me.

Blair Witch was about checking out the girl, wondering if she was good looking or not and when the movie would start to get interesting. Maybe my grandmother would have found it scary or someone who has never been out in the woods and thinks it's the great unknown. Other than that, I found the reactions of the guys rather forced and random, probably quite accurate if it were real, but didn't really convince me of any sincerity, made me think they were on drugs rather than being scared.

                        ----------

                          Tanx Le Bodge,

I did not have anytime to try it jet, but if it works for you it should also work for me, I only tried the 2.00 Region selector program that one time. Downloaded the 2.20 Beta version last night.

I'll try it tonight, when I get off work.

Ice Storm, how do you watch DVD movies on your second monitor? Last I tried, DVDMax only works on TVs and MultiMon doesn't allow any overlay on the second monitor. Has this changed in 5.30?

Would also be interrested how to get DHClone and DVDMax working on second monitor.

Only workaround I know of to get DVD on second monitor is to switch DirectX from overlay to primary surface mode. I have used a utility shipped with Hauppage WinTV to do this.

what I would really like is to use the VGA input of my 82cm 16:9 TV to get DHZoom and DVDMax. Does someone know if this is technically possible? I mean is it only a software issue or is it impossible by G400 hw design?

Hi, I just bought Dragon's Lair on DVD. It's just like the arcade except there's a really annoying pause everytime you make any input. Man something like that they should print on the label
