  • What can't I buy a G400 MAX

Could someone please help me locate a retailer that can sell me a G400 MAX? I have tried every retail outlet in the Dallas area (CompUSA,Best Buy, Microcenter, Fry's, etc.) and nobody has one of these. I have had a pre-order with Outpost.COM since August and they still tell me they have no idea when they will get some in. I've also tried several other mail houses (Buy.com, Egghead, etc.) and they all list backorders as well. I could order it straight from Matrox, but I refuse to pay the 60$ (plus shipping) extra that they charge over everyone else. What is the deal here? Why can't Matrox ship this card? Is this just some brilliant marketing strategy to force us to buy direct from them that I just don't understand?!!? Sorry for the tone, but I really like everything I have heard about this card and I just want to find one.

    Hey BryanL1,

You just may have to bite the bullet and order one from Matrox. Most of us here did. It's only about $15.28 for the 3 Day shipping charges. Mine was $264.28 and worth every bit of what I paid.
You could also order a Dual Head Bulk G400 32MB from ALLSTARSHOP
www.allstarshop.com/ for $164.00 plus shipping and just overclock it to MAX specs.

You're not going to find one retail, not next week, probably not til next year.

The Taiwan quake has caused such a huge component shortage that most graphics card manufacturers are on allocation. Matorx cards are in ever greater demand as other cards are in shorter supply.

Remember, Max's were in short supply even before the quake!

Also take in account that Matrox makes 2 or 3 times as much net profit from direct sales as they do from retail sales.

If Matrox is selling all they can manufacturer through their direct sales channel, why in the world should they loose money and sell them for less to retailers? Traditionally, only a very small proportion of Matrox cards have been sold through the retail channel anyway.

If you want a Max, call Matrox, pay retail, and you'll have a card in a few days.
