  • TGL does not work for me!!! any ideas?

OpenGL programs: Unreal 225f, Quake3 Test. These are the only Turbo GL aplications I have. I used the uninstall utility from Matrox to take off the old drivers and then installed 5.30 and Turbo GL. TurboGL found my applications and installed itself. Once I did this neither of these games work. They lock up right after the begin to start. No image, nothing just a serious system crash, had to reset. I then, using the Power desk TurboGL thing, took the TurboGL dirvers off these games. Now they work like before. Why doesn't TurboGL work for me?

    System Specs:

    PIII-500
    128Mb PC-100 ECC
    SB Live Value
    Matrox G400 Max
    MicroStar 6119 Motherboard
    AGP apeture of 64Mb

Okay, as you know I posted with you and had the same problem, but I (so far) have mine fixed.

My problem was that my G400 was on interrupt 5. I guess that IRQ is too slow, and when the G400 tries to throw graphics around, it just locks up.

    Hope this helped, good luck.

Occasionaly I get a similar problem, mostly at startup of Quake2, but once it happened with Quake3 too. The screen will blink in cyan/black and the system will lock up.

      Desktop is at 1152x16, Quake2 at 1024(x16).

        Hquervo-

Unfortunately, I seem to still have the occasional lock-up. Now I am really stumped, but I hope the IRQ thing at least helped you out a bit. It did me, instead of locking up every time, I only lock up about 1 in four, but it is still really frustrating.

But, when you do get it fired up, you will love it, because there is a noticeable (visibly, not by timedemo) improvement.

        Again, good luck. -joe

I get lockups in Q3Test aswell. (See my post on 32bit z buffering) I thought initially that enabling 32 bit z buffer cure it, but nope! It's still there but doesnt seem to be as often. Everything else runs fine. I don't have problems with IRQ's etc. and I've only ever had Matrox cards in this machine!
Frustrating when you hear so many good things about the TGL driver but can't get the thing stable on your own PC!!!

I think I too have said this, but I get lockups with TGL too. Usually after a couple of seconds, BUT I can tell when its going to happen. This is crazy, but it like this: when I am going to connect to a server, it takes a looooonggg time (I am on a T1, so I get constant pings of 2-50, and I know how long it will take to connect. This does not happen to me with the Beta opengl, so I know the TGL is at fault. Oh yeah, the problem only happens if I have been using many other programs, then try to play. If I do it right after reboot it runs fine.

Ozy: that sounds like you have some program running that does not free memory as it should when closed... you might want to use something like Startup Cop to set up a config with as little as possible running in the background...

Hquervo, try to set your AGP Aperture Size in the BIOS as high as possible, 128 or 256. Even if you don't have the memory, yes.

I have had mondo problems with 5.30 too.. Q2 will NOT start in any but software mode, Unreal gives the worst lockups ever if you try playing at any but the default resolution, Rogue Squadron (D3D) has horrible visual artifacts and the radar screen disappears in in-cockpit mode. I have a fresh, new system, and these problems occur without anything else having been run to fragment the memory. They occur every time, without fail. I have reverted to 5.25 now. Maybe they will get these bugs ironed out eventually.

Thanks for the suggestion, it makes sense because I can no longer defrag my HD. It keeps on acting like the hd data is getting changed by some app, and won't make any progress.
