G400 Max lockup..

    G400 Max lockup..

    Can't even boot to windows, after I log in
    the computer just locks up

    got a Microstar 5184 (via chipset)
    with 64mb of sdram
    and a K6-3 400 mhz.

    Do this exactly:

    Download the new G400 drivers (which you have already =) ), download the 4in1 driver pack from Via, download the uninstall utility from Matrox, run the uninstall utility, reboot switch to standard Vga adapter and reboot, install the 4in1 driver pack (don't install the IRQ miniport) in normal mode reboot and go into your bios and disable "read around write" save settings and exit, boot into windows and run the setup for PD 5.30, reboot and you should be up to speed.

      A browse through recent postings seems to indicate that rev 5.30 just doesn't work well with the VIA chipset whereas 5.25 seems to be okay. Rather than struggling with incompatabilities, you might want to use ver 5.25 and wait a little while for Matrox to remedy the apparent problem with 5.30.

        I have 5.3 running fine on my VA 503+.

        It can be done, you just have to have the settings right.
