Matrox tech support: it is not an IRQ problem it is an AGP problem i have
    Athlon 500
    MSI MS-6167
    128 ram

i have the same thing, but when i force agp 1x, everything runs perfectly.
and my problem: with power desk 5.3, after some time (days/weeks) i boot up, and when windows desktop pops up, it gets all colored, and the big (like dos mouse) things pops up, and it looks like a net, i go to safe mode, and i uninstall and than install again powerdesk and ogl, and everything works fine, it happend to me for 2 times!

Phew, for a minute, I thought a missed a major thread.

Maybe this would make people realize why we ask for the irq's.

87.3% of clients calling and emailing us has been resolved by fixing up the irq's. So because of this, we will ask for the irq settings most of the time regardless of the problem. I don't know why it iritates some people because it's just one extra email or an extra 10 seconds on the phone. Besides, a system locking up once in windows can be anything - irq, address conflict, bus mastering, Direct x, 2D, tsr's, etc. The first thing we will check are the irq's.

We are seeing this problem with the G200 in ALI and VIA chipsets which we are looking at. No problems though with the 5.25 drivers or 5.30 with DX 6.1.

        Try this:

1 - With the 5.30, remove Pdesk from startup and see if this helps.

2 - Uninstall the 5.30 and try the 5.25 and see if this helps.

I have an Athlon 500 at work and haven't seen this problem yet. I am using an AMD chipset.

What TSR's are being loaded up on your system?

Are you forcing your system to 2x with the 5.30 drivers?

What joystick do you have (if any)?

TSR stands for "Terminate and Stay Resident". This term is generally used to refer to a special class of programs for PC-compatible machines running DOS. When a user exits a normal program running in DOS, the memory that was used by that program is usually freed for other programs and tasks, and the program must be reloaded from disk back into memory for it to be used again. When a TSR program is run, however, it loads itself into the computer's memory and remains there for later use. Other programs may be run while the TSR is still alive in memory, and these programs may invoke the TSR or be affected by the behavior of the TSR. Thus, TSR programs may give DOS the appearance of "multi-tasking", the ability to perform several tasks at once, which is built into many other operating systems.

The old DOS antivirus sitting in the memory could be referred as a TSR. Currently, dos drivers (like sound cards), programs sitting in your system tray (like antivirus/powerdesk) and other non ms-win processes running around (you can see them by pressing ctrl-alt-del) are replacing them.

I only get the screen corruptions when I turn vsynch off under PD5.30

So I think you should check if vsynch is enabled or disabled.

Hi, can I clear something up for myself ?
The problem you're discussing is the screen corruption/lockup of Win9X when PD5.30 is installed on a system with the VIA or ALi chipsets, yes ?

Is this related to, or separate from, the problem that VIA owners are having running anything using OGL in PD5.30 ? My VIA system _seemed_ to start fine using PD5.30 for the short time it was installed, but I removed it once I realised that anything connected to OGL caused a lockup or a BSOD (PD5.25 works without any problems). My question becomes: is the problem I have connected to a more general issue with this driver release or a specific one with the PD5.30 OGL driver ? (In which case I'll bugger off back to my thread and let you lot got on with fixing you ills )

                  Dave

Don't know that Dave, my mobo is an Asus P2B rev. something (am at work at the moment using a 486 PC with alot of HW missing!!)

Then again, I do know from earlier drivers that as soon as I disabled vsynch I would have lockups/screen corruptions. Maybe something to do with my monitor (Ilyama A701GT), maybe something to do with me?
