Try PD 5.13 it seems to be more AGP2 "friendly"

Sorry. The faster the driver the less compatible with lousy chipsets (i.e. VIA and ALI) it is. Therefore, you will have better luck dropping back to PowerDesk 5.10 or 5.11 or 5.13 than with making the new drivers work. Even then, there's no guarantee.

There's a REASON people still buy Intel hardware, even though AMD is faster and probably better... it's because the support chipsets for AMD have historically really stunk. Even if the Athlon is better, there are lots of people who will remember when their AMD K5 or 586 chip just didn't work with their Sound Blaster. Or that they couldn't get AGP to work with their K6.

It's sad but true. AMD even tried making their own chipset for a while. The AMD640. It was very nice, but there was little or no driver support, and it quietly faded away.

I think in most cases, you'll get better performance with the newer drivers in agp 1x than you will with the older drivers in 2x

I have an FIC mobo with Via chipset, a G400, Voodoo card, SB Live, 3CoM card, RR-G and it is always in 2X with pretty much all drivers, including the 5.30. So yes it is possible. Be sure to have those patches installed and the latest drivers for all your devices.

Thanks for the info dudes !

Sad, but this doesn`t help me very much. I run ROCK STABLE AGP 1x with the newest drivers under Windows 98 and the performance is good, nothing to complain about, I was just wondering is there " ANY " way of making the G200 to work on a VIA Socket7 system with AGP 2x ENABLED without switching back to the older drivers . What stops the G200 from working on " FULL SPEED " ?????????
Is there anyone with a similar configuration ???? What is your AGP status ?
Anyone tried to compare performance difference AGP 1x vs. AGP 2x in games , like Quake 3 ?

Again Im begging you for help, someone is got to have all these answers ....

I was never able to get my G200 to do AGP x2. It was rock solid at x1 so I gave up and left it that way. It was posted here that it was often unstable when forced. According to most posts the increase was only a few FPS. Running stable is far more important.
BTW G400 does AGP x2 with no problems.

The actual games performance of AGP 1x vs. 2x in real-world games such as Quake is negligible. Almost none. At least with MOST chipsets (including the G200 and G400). The i740 chipset is a notable exception to this rule since it has NO local texture memory (how wacky is that?) at all.
