    Please matrox !
release some workable driver for Windows 2000
You know that Windows 2000 will be finished
    at 17 november !!!
so your drivers should be at least past alpha stage by now
and a lot of people don't mind a beta driver for the time being !!!
please (1280x1024@75 Hz is killing me i want my 1152x768@100Hz back !!!)

Fully agree, don't keep us waiting longer than required. A beta with dualhead support would be much, much apreciated.

      Simbaman,

Where did you read it would be released november 17? Last I heard they were pushing it back much much further than this...

All release dates right now are rumors

That said, the dates getting the most press are RTM (release to manufacturing) on December 6th and on store shelves late January (with perhaps a big rollout Superbowl Sunday w/ a 1984 Apple like ad.)

The November RTM rumor started here: http://www.wugnet.com/wininfo/
It would be cool if true- Win2K under the x-mas tree?

ps- if RC3 does come out this Wednesday (27th), like Paul Thurrott's WinInfo site says, then we'll know his "theory" holds water.

Most rumors for RC3 are early-mid November.

Actually, the December 6 RTM rumor makes sense- even if it RTMs mid November, that would unlikely be enough lead time to allow it to hit shelves by the holiday giving season. Plus w/ Y2K looming, almost no businesses will be paying attention to Win2K until after 1/1/2000. So they might as well push off the "store shelves" date until January giving them time to fix every little bug they can find, tweak everything to their liking. An extra couple of weeks might let them include a few more device drivers from hardware companies readying support for their equipment (Matrox?)

But, everyone agrees that Microsoft has the product almost ready to go, so they'll definetely want to get it RTMed before xmas- and in fact December 6th makes sense so all the developers can take 2-3 weeks off before the new year. I'm sure they're frazzled after working on this product for 2+ years.

I think I'm over analysizing this.

Anyhow, my "main" OS is WinNT4 and I've been waiting for USB support for 2 years now... can't wait for Win2K...

I heard it from a Microsoft representitive
            last week.
He was pretty sure that rc3 (released second or third week of november) will be gold
as bugs are getting squased real fast now...
so win2k will be finished real soon now !

Did this MS rep say when it it scheduled to hit retail "store shelves"?

If not, is it possible to ask?

After all, who really cares when it RTMs. I wanna know when I can get it in my hands!

key word is always "warez"... it's not on the shelves right away to leave some time for the developpers to produce and test their drivers... it will also go in a final beta testing stage before the release... there is a reason why they almost pushed the release date a year you know....

Last I heard from News.com, it was delayed till February. Typical MicroSuck, they finally stabilize Win98 with Win98SE and now it's back to more horrid instability and crash-mania.....blaaaaaaaaaa.

Wonder if Matrox will release their drivers on the RTM date or the shipping date? MSDN subscribers should be able to access W2k a couple of days after RTM, sure hope something will be available from Matrox.
