Ok let's look at the rest of your Bios settings.

And here are the settings which I'm using. I am using two ATA/66 Hard Drives on my system. So the Primary IDE controller is disabled also both Serial ports are disabled.

Right I think I'll give it one last shot... following ALBPM's advice of disabling the primary IDE controller.

BTW,DuRaNgO, how the heck do you OC your system to 620?! I feel like OCing my CPU but I'm not sure about how to go around doing it safely.

At least temporarily. Half Life runs goood on my computer now, and its all thanks to....... argh everyone who replied anyway . Thanks again for the woderful response I got. Could'nt have done it myself.

Hi Snarky,

Ok, to overclock your P3-500 all the settings are in the Soft Menu II section of your system Bios. I'll cut /paste that section from the files I posted.

-Ext. Clock(PCI) : start with (112 x 1/3)
-Multiplier Factor : 5.0 (always)
-SEL100/66# Signal : High
-AGPCLK/CPUCLK : 2/3 (always)
-L2 Cache Latency : 8 (above shuts it off)
-Speed Error Hold : disable (always)

CPU Power Supply : user define
-Core Voltage : try 2.0 (first if it won't boot then increase to 2.2 or 2.3)

Now if your system fails to boot up, restart it and hold down the (insert) key while it boots. This will reset the settings on your Soft Menu and enable you to get back into the Bios (so you can increase the Voltage etc.)

The ability to overclock your processor will depend on the type or brand of L2 chips on your processor. If you have NEC, Toshiba, SEC your chances are good. If you have Mitsubishi cache chips then (112 x 1/3)=560Mhz may be the limit.

If your processor will run at (112 x 1/3) or faster you will need to replace the Intel stock heatsink/fan with a better one. I recommend the ALPHA, Vantec or Tennmax P3 coolers.

Next you will need to remove the Intel heatsink.

1)Cant you get your vid card or something else onto irq12?
2)In my bios, I can assign irqs to the specific slots.
3)Alternatively, I can lock an irq for non pnp devices.
4) I see com1/com4 switched to com1/com2. Is this your modem and mouse?
I say this because you haven't disabled a com port.
5) If your hard drive and cdrom are plugged directly into the mb, you're not using an additional controller. If you ARE using an external controller, you should disable the built in pci ide controller (primary and secondary).
(If your cd is on the internal controller, just disable the secondary pci ide controller)

Glad to see you got it straightened out but you did get one bad piece of advice which could have potentially toasted some components. DO NOT leave the power cord plugged in while installing/moving cards on an ATX motherboard. There is still power to the board with an ATX PS even while turned off. You must remove the power cord. If you wish to properly observe electrostatic precaustions then run a ground lead from your case to a proper ground, this will give a static ground while keeping power from the mobo whilst changing cards. Once again, congratulations on making it through.
