    HedsSpaz:

I got that Korean/memory info from a guy who owns a PC business who *seems* to know what he's talking about. Can't be sure though. He also said that if the earthquake affects ANY pricing, it would probably be video card or mobo prices, since the majority of both those things are made in Taiwan. Time will tell I suppose.

Around here it looks like prices are still going up... but I heard something about them going down, too.

What Upsets me is that I was going to build myself a new system and when I was going to buy the parts the Ram Doubled!!! I guess the system will have to wait till the prices drop again.

They got smart and formed a cartel. I'd be surprised if it ever goes back as low as it was pre-September '99.

All I need to complete a second system (from scratch parts from my current system) is a monitor and the memory. Those prices gotta get down some more first, though.

If I recall correctly, the memory manufacturers agreed to raise prices and lower production volumes across the board because of the low profit margins at the time (agreeing with some of you here).

The production volumes were to be lowered in preparation to scale back (and eventually phase out) production of SDRAM in favor of the upcoming (and now indefinately delayed) RDRAM.

Whether any of the above is true or not, I can't personally say, but I do know that I really want my cheap 128MB DIMMs again. I can't believe I got 2 Siemens 128 (CAS2, 133) sticks for $220, and now I'll be lucky to get 1 128 for $230. That stinks!

For once I am absolutely thrilled to have been proved wrong. I can finally put another 128 in my system(64 really, REALLY does not cut it ).

Hey Ace, have you checked pricewatch lately? The low price as of 10/27/99 at 11:10 AM EST is 128$ for 128mb PC100 SDRAM.
Now if that isn't a deal I don't know what is.(course if you're not in the US I geuss that probably doesn't do you much good).

                    www.crucial.com (Micron)

128MB PC133 ECC SDRAM - $219 from the online store.

I ordered two. They can refuse the order, but almost ALL of their 128MB DIMMs are priced around the same level - $200 to $230. That's for true blue Micron memory.

Actuallu HedsSpaz, I haven't checked the prices on PriceWatch, since I usually buy locally. The cheapest I can get it locally is $210. I guess I need to check it out then- that price is too good to miss out on. Thanks for the tip.

If you hadn't pointed this out to me, my second box would sit there for awhile. There's just no way I'll split up my 2x128's in my main box. Everything's much better with 256MB. The other box is going to be for my spouse/child anyhow, so they don't need more than 128. 64 would do them, but I intend to use the box for the times when a friend comes over to get into some mp Q3 or UT through my cable modem.
