  • Finally got a G400 MAX Downunder!

    Hey Guy's

Just thought that I'd let you know that at last I got my G400 MAX !!

After waiting close to 3 months, it finally arrived last Friday.
Reading about the various experiences of other people trying to get there hands on one, I think that I've been lucky. My supplier has been trying for ages to get the MAX and in the end could only get 2 cards, one for me and one for my Brother-in-law ........ the regular G400 seems to be readyly available on the shelf down here in OZ.

Was it worth the wait? ......... you bet!!

Everything installed without a hitch .......... all my games run super smooooth, Q2 & 3, Unreal, HalfLife etc ....... and the Tech-demo is absolutely stunning !!!!!

Now I know what Kruzin, Steve, Paul etc have been raving about .............

    Alan.

Good for you and your brother-in-law, Sierra. Welcome to the club!

Now you can move on from the 'waiting to get the card' phase to the 'waiting to get the latest drivers' phase, where a lot of the rest of us are now. BTW- The Max totally rocks, huh?

Frank, I paid AUS$450 for mine.

Ace, I've waited this long for the card ..... a little while longer for updated drivers won't be a problem ...... Yeah it rocks!

Delany, Are you based in NSW?

Well, I'm excited to live in the same country as someone who owns a G400MAX, even if I don't have one myself
Look, I know you think the world of me, that's understandable, you're only human, but it's not nice to call somebody "Vain"!

                Another satisfied Matrox user!

Say, which side is the cooling fan on the MAX they send "down under?"

Don't get me wrong Sierra- I'm not complaining. I love my Max too! I was just trying to make a slightly witty observation as to the apparent state of things with G400 owners in here (obviously I failed pretty miserably , so I'll try to stay away from jokes ).

                  Have fun with your card.

A more interesting question than which side of the card is the fan on is- which way does the fan spin on the Max's down there?

(Okay, so I fibbed a little above. Sue me. Heh-heh. )

Delany, Sierra, if I could obtain Max's from the computer shows (they are much cheaper than the retail chains) here in LA,
                      http://www.cheetah.net/~beta2/shows.html
I would have offered to post you blokes the boxed card. Wouldn't hesitate offering that to me cobber mates , espcially after realizing the costs over there.
I spent most of my life in Adelaide (....dedalaide ).
I paid $170US (~$255AUS) for an OEM 32Mb DH vanilla. They dropped to $150 the following week! DOH. But no Max's as yet at the computer fairs. And from what I understand there will be no Max OEM's.
No wonder I never got into computers back home.....just to expensive! for my budget anyway.
I just discovered this site in Melbourne...mate, SOME of his prices are just plain ridiculous, taking the conversion factor into account. But I guess everything is expensive after shipping costs over there... http://www.flexisoft.com.au/products/default.htm
                      hmmmm....$450AUS is ~$300US...not bad
You can get my email from my profile and if you blokes want some prices from the fairs, take a deep breath and give me a yell. I frequent the fairs regularly.

                      more power to ya!

                        Frank,

I got mine via mail at Cougar Computers in Canberra.

It cost me AUS$485.90 including postage etc...

Ace & SCompRacer, The fan IS on the underside of the card, and it spins backwards .............. aaaarrrrgggg!!!!
Sorry, my pitifull atempt at humor there! he he

Delany, Clones eh! ...... or maybe twins, like Arnie and Danny DeVito (I'm definatly not Arnie)
Oh, BTW are my taxes paying your wages? only joking ......... I'm trying Ace ..... honestly

Frank, Thanks for the kind offer, we do seem to get shafted price wise compared to the States. I checked out your link to Flexisoft ....... didn't see any Matrox products there, or too much other high-end stuff either.
I used to buy hardware at fairs, but if something should go wrong it can be difficult to get a warranty if the vendor dissapears ........ so I just feel safer going through a known supplier.

Agent31, Did you have trouble getting a MAX over there?

                          Alan.
