ABIT BE6 bios updates - any need for that ?

Is there any need for me to flash my ABIT BE6 to the BE6MU bios ??
Anyone here done that and solved/gained some in connection to the G400MAX ? Or just in general ?

IT FIXES THE FOLLOWING:


1.Supports the PIII 600(100)Mhz CPU.
2.Supports Socket 370 Celeron 500 Mhz CPU.
3.Fixes the Y2K RTC problem.
4.Fixes the password function.
5.Improves the STD function.
6.Supports the "A, EXT, C" option.
7.Fixes the detection problem with the 37GB hard disk.

So, yes it is recommended that you upgrade.

I upgraded mine mainly because of #6. I just bought a 7200 RPM 15GB DMA 66 drive, and want to be able to set the boot order properly. Everything appears to be running fine since the BIOS / hardware upgrade.

I've now flashed the BIOS to ver. MU - no problem there !

I always boot with the sequence EXT, C, A - since my IBM 22GB HD is UDMA66.

Here's something interesting for you, Double. Since I only have CDROM/DVDROM drives on the standard (DMA33 BX) controllers, my system boots off of my 15GB DMA66 drive (on the first HPT366 controller) anyway, even though I never changed the boot order in the BIOS. It looks like the BIOS automatically makes the first hdd it sees the C: drive, and if it doesn't see any (or only removable media drives), it doesn't set up a C: drive. Once the HPT loads its BIOS, I see my hard drives get assigned letters.

I have a question for you now, though. Do you get a DMA checkbox in your device manager under the hard drive's properties? I'm asking because I don't have one for either of the drives on my HPT controllers (one - the C is DMA 66, the other is DMA 33 - on the second controller as primary). Thanks.

I don't have any DMA checkbox.

I also have a DVD drive on the primary ide channel (master) and a CD-R on the secondary ide (master).
My HD is on the primary UDMA66 controller and my system boots of it as well and names it C.
