I just want to add that this solution also works for Intel Seattle motherboards, however 1xAGP is required.

I recived mail from Matrox yesterday where they confirm that they have problem with some motherboards including Intel's.

      Hi,

I have an Intel Seattle motherboard and i had the same problems combining G400Max and SBLIVE!
After a clean install eveything was fine until i installed the liveware from CD, then techdemo would freeze and the d3d test in dxmedia would not run.
After a lot of reinstalling and trial and error i found out that the liveware install in somehow f***ed up the directx.

I then copied the installation cd (the one that came with my card) of the liveware to my harddisk, DELETED the directx map from creative and installed liveware and after that everything is fine and stays ok even after installing liveware 3.0.

i repeated this several times and i am pretty sure that it is the install of directx parts by the liveware installation program (even if you have the latest DX 7.0) that is causing d3d to fail.

      For what it 's worth.

        Hi Rob,

I had also problems with running Turbo opengl games and not only DirectX games after installing my original Liveware cd, but the problems could be different with each motherboard.

I never really did a reinstall
Joe, I tried that also removing all devices and starting from scratch with the hardware but it had no effect for me. I had to completly reinstall windows and use Liveware 2.0 or higher, and the strangest thing is the the G400 works perfect on every IRQ on my computer so long there is no conflict, mine is working perfect on IRQ 5

I found a natty little trick for my dv300 card which had similar problems and the theory may be of help here....

The is an obscure setting in the device manager bit of the control pannel. If you look in the system devices section under the pci bus bit you will find a tab that says settings. It has two options 'Use Hardwar' and 'Use Bios'.

The Use Hardware option seems to be set by default and by changing this to use bios many of my IRQ problems were fixed.

Worth a try as it's nice and simple to do.

          Hope that helps

JMS, while it sounds like a risky proposition with folks reporting issues, I have had not had any problems upgrading every version of SB software with my Abit BE6 and Matrox G400. Leaves you with the a tough choice.

I'm curious. Are we seeing problems with the original Seattle board or Rev. 2? On-board audio or without?

Just as an aside, I built my first computer from scratch on a defective Seattle motherboard. I seemed to cut myself on it every 10 minutes or so. I couldn't get it to boot or get a signal to my monitor until I pushed on the processor and RAM modules for a while. This somehow stabilized it for about two weeks. Then I upgraded from a PII 266 to a PII 400 and the boot problem became permanent.

I've had problems at work with some early implementations of the LX chipset as well.

I've learned my lesson. No more buying the latest, greatest motherboard the minute it comes out.

All you guys formatting and reinstalling everything DO know there is a Liveware 3.0 out right?

Install docs to 3.0 require you to uninstall all references to 1.0/2.0/2.1 anyway..
