ok, phone dabs direct, scan and insight and they will tell you that matrox has recalled all of the Max`s in the uk because of problems due to heat, some thing to do with the PAL interface.
I called all 3 of these companys wanting to buy a MAX today and they all gave me the same story.
Im only letting you know what i have been told off 3 diffrent companys.
Don't listen to a word Insight tell you! A friend of mine phoned them asking about the availability of the Max two weeks after I got mine. Insight told him that they'd never had any and that they weren't getting any. Guess what? I got my Max from Insight!
Whilst I was waiting for my Max Insight told me that they would be delivered in November (this was back in June); that they’d been recalled (again June); and that they simply didn’t know when I’d get my card (two days before I received it. This being week after I got back from Cornwall - solar eclipse week 11th August)
You can't expect a company based in Worksop to know what they're on about.
(Guess who lives near Worksop.)

I've got a UK spec card, and I can tell you that it definately does not overheat! In fact, it's the coolest card I've ever had, running at a much lower temperature that either a Voodoo 3 or TNT 2 Ultra

Multiwave were spreading those lies back in September when I was waiting for a Max I had orderd from them for a client. (I ordered it in June and cancelled shortly after they lied to me) I contacted Matrox and they assured me that no such thing had occurred. I think those lies are a way for those companies who feel miffed at M to get back at them

Insight's warehouse/shop is right next to the Sainsbury's supermarket in Worksop. Let's just say tha's more likely to get a tin o' soup delivered than sumut tha's ordered.
Anyway, I don't see how our UK spec cards could overheat when they are assembled in Ireland and use the Beamish Red Liquid Cooling System.
Strange that the story seems to have come from three competing companies though.
