BTW Double, my system is also a BE6/G400Max combo, using a DMA66 drive as the boot device. I don't have the same problem though.

What version of bios is on your motherboard?

The reason I ask is that there is a newer bios (MU) on the Abit site now, that deals with the USB/DMA66 issue, among other things.

The question DuRaNgO asked about a W.D. harddrive probably relates to the bios update also (if I'm guessing wrong, correct me DuRaNgO). Evidently the new bios corrects some sort of problem with the HPT366 controller and some Western Digital hard drives, too.

[Let us know if any of these helps you.. you might even get to remove the 3 second boot delay]

My BIOS version is MU, just flashed it yesterday.

My HD is an IBM Deskstar 22 GXP UDMA 66.

I have (and always had) the quick power on selftest ENABLED.

When thing I'll try is to reduced the IDE delay to 0 seconds again, since I haven't tried that after the BIOS update.

      I'll return with the result.

Thanks Double. I'll be interested in the results. Especially with the number of reports of G400/Abit problems that people have reported here recently.

Well guys - solution time is near.

After flashing the BIOS to ver. MU I tried setting the IDE delay to 0 sec - and guess what ?
The PC booted without any problem and has done so 3-4 times by now.

            Double....

            Well guys !
            I found a solution........

Instead of disabling everything I added a 3 second time delay to the IDE channels - and guess what, it worked !!!
Try setting IDE delay to 3-4 seconds, see what happens...
Glad you were able to FIND the solution both as workaround and permanent one with the bios update....

            Happy computin'.....
