  • turbogl problems

Anyone having any problems with the new turbogl. I don't play quake so can't speak for it but with Half-life multiplayer that is where I am seeing issues. Basically when I go into half-life (latest patch), multiplayer, internet, then pick a server to play, it goes to the black screen with orange loading and from there it is a 50/50 chance the turbogl gets loaded correctly, sometimes I can hear me drop into the game but the screen is black and flickering. Other times it just locks and I have to reboot. system specs - abitbx6 r2, PIII 500 o/c 560, 128mb, adaptec u2w scsi card, with ibm u2w ultrastar and plextor 8x20 attached to it, diamondmx300 sound, 3com905btx nic. I have windows running at 1600x1200 with the iiyama visionmaster pro450 monitor inf's definitions, latest matrox drivers and w98se with all the latest patches (all relevant windows updates and directx7.0). Has anyone experienced similar issues ? Haig - do you know of any bugs being worked on with this issue?

    Thanks.

    Hi mj12,

One thing that comes to mind is your NIC, I had similar problems when using my cards (V3, G400) with it. I had to download the "bare" drivers to get it stable in games. Go to 3coms website and get the basic drivers for the card and try it.

The problem is in loading the turbogl drivers, not with the opengl icd, that works fine...well slow, but fine. It is when Half-Life trys to load the turbogl driver that is when the problem occurs, so I don't see where the nic driver comes into play here?

paul: The problems happened to me when the NIC is installed period. Whether or not I was online, it would always happen using the faster MinGL's on the V3, or the TurboGL with the G400.

mj12: I know you don't see why it would matter, but for me it did. The normal ICD would work fine for hours on end, with TGL, it crashed. Maybe because the AGP bus was working a bit harder, I don't know. All I can say is try it. It worked for me and it may very well work for you.
