  • G400 single head 16Mb Bulk questions...

    Hi!

I have been considering getting a G400 ever since it was released. unfortunatly, hardware is expensive in Denmark and I'm a poor bastard. I have no real need for DVD-output or a two monitor setup. (I only have one monitor!!). As I understand it, 32Mb is only needed for large textures in games, right? Will an extra 16Mb boost my framerate in 3D games greatly?

So the question is: Why should I take out an extra mortgage on my house to get a MAX if a 16Mb single head bulk version will do?

Do I REALLY need to get a MAX? Pros and cons, please? Any driver or hardware issues I should be aware of before buying a "bulk" or is it "Vanilla" you call the single head 16Mb version?

    Regards,

    Jake

I had a 16MB G400 SH for a time and the card performed surprisingly well. I can't recall frame rates but Quake II and Forsaken were very playable with it. The DVD was great too. Had a P II 400 at first then upgraded to a P III 500, then I got a MAX.

The OEM versions may not always have the full featured connectors for add-ons where the retail cards do. You will only get a driver CD with the OEM card, no games. Drivers will be the same, regardless of retail or OEM.

Post your system spec's, like processor, motherboard, sound card, amount of memory and op system and maybe someone can give you an idea of numbers and problems, if any, to expect.

there are different G400 our there for different needs... if you do not really need all the extra feature then you should be ahppy with your 16 meg card and should not notice any drops on performance... G400 max is faster, but we all knew this...
