will g400 dual head work on AMD k6-2 350?anyone using it w/ this cpu, how bad or good it is..?

    Hi.

I had for a short while a G400 with a K6-2 300. Basically I think a G400 is overkill for any K6-2... Dualhead works, but software DVD is choppy, Direct3d games are usually OK. If you have a VIA MVP3 chipset, you probably can not use the latest 5.30 drivers.

The good point is that the frame rates stay on a good (or reasonable) level to high resolutions, as it is the CPU and not the graphics card that is the bottleneck.

If you are mostly playing games like Unreal, Quake etc, I would probably not recommend a G400, at least not before TurboGL is available for K6-2 as well.

All in all, I would consider the upgrade path as a total solution. If you current card is old (pre-TNT, pre-G200, pre-Voodoo2), I would take the G400 now and worry about the CPU/mobo later. If you have a previous generation card (G200, TNT etc), I would probably first upgrade the CPU side of things.

Also, now that the memory prices begin to reach reasonable levels again, I would make sure I have at least 128 MB of memory (hmm... time to do some shopping)...

    M.

I'm running it on an AMD K6-2/400 and all is pretty good, including DVD playback.
