Well i dont want to buy an extra hardware, i just want to ue the usb ports i have.

Also, the problem is still here with the ps2 port, not as bad but still annoying. Plus it seems that with the intellimouse explorer connected to the ps2 port the red light remains ON! even when the computer is switched off?? I dont see how this works but it is true!

You know when you speak up too soon??

I think that this mouse "feels" cheap and performs like crap! Think about it, a mouse need to be consistant at all times. I always feel like i'm Sharing bandwith and when I'm launching an app.and not getting enough. Like rduck mentioned I get studdering pointers. I have to fuss with this a little more and see what the gig is with the USB. I have no problems with my scanner.
There is 500mA availible per port on USB The Intell uses 100.And the system reserved bandwith use is 20% of available. It should work no problem

For my .02, I'd like to throw in that I have the Intellimouse Explorer attached to a USB port on a BH6 motherboard, and have absolutely no problems. The pointer remains smooth at all times. I have put the mouse on an Everglide mouse pad, and it is nice and slippery (very low friction), but precise at the same time. btw, I got my pad from www.everglide.com (no affiliation). If anyone orders a pad from them for the optical mouse, be sure to get a black pad, and not a white one. The Intellimouse Explorer's optics don't register on the highly reflective white pad, but function perfectly with the black rectangular pad I bought. Here are my system specs for those narrowing down the cause of their problems with this mouse.

Windows 98SE (With all the patches for the OS installed that are available from the Update site)
A Clean (Format C HD install of everything
            Directx 7
Intellipoint 3.0 drivers that came with the CD
Matrox G400 MAX with the latest 5.30 drivers and BIOS.
ABIT BH6 revision 1.01 with the LN BIOS (The MV had issues)
System BIOS, Video BIOS, and Video Ram Cacheable all disabled in BIOS. Video BIOS Shadow disabled as well.
            No interrupts shared.
            No overclocking of anything.
            PIII 500
            256 Megs PC 100 Ram
            HP 6200C USB Scanner
            3Com 3C905B-TX NIC
Fujitsu 8.4 and IBM 8.4 HD's. Both with DMA enabled.
            Toshiba 1202 DVD (DMA enabled)
            HP 8200i CDRW (DMA disabled)
HP 882C parallel port printer (EPP 1.9 Mode)
Entegra 4 port USB hub (Only the scanner is attached so far, and the mouse is on the remaining USB port attached to the motherboard.
Sound Blaster Live Sound Card, with Liveware 3.0.
            USR x2 Internal Fax Modem

            In case anyone with a BH6 wonders how I got everything set up with no interrupts on my particular setup, I will paste the contents of a .doc file that I typed out with all of my LN BIOS Settings. I put my NIC in the second PCI slot from the AGP, and the SB Live in the third slot from the AGP. The ISA modem was placed in the ISA slot nearest the edge of the motherboard. It was the tweaking of the BIOS settings for manual interrupt selection (PIRQ) that allowed me to get this setup free of interrupt sharing. First, here are the interrupt allocations on my system;

            0 System timer
1 Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural Keyboard
            2 Programmable interrupt controller
3 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI to USB Universal Host Controller
3 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
            4 Communications Port (COM1)
5 3Com Fast EtherLink XL 10/100Mb TX Ethernet NIC (3C905B-TX)
5 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
            6 Standard Floppy Disk Controller
            7 Printer Port (LPT1)
            8 System CMOS/real time clock
9 Creative SB Live! SB16 Emulation
            10 Creative SB Live!
10 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
            11 Matrox Millennium G400 DualHead - English
11 IRQ Holder for PCI Steering
            12 (free)
            13 Numeric data processor
14 Primary IDE controller (dual fifo)
14 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller
15 Secondary IDE controller (dual fifo)
15 Intel 82371AB/EB PCI Bus Master IDE Controller

Some people were reporting cold boot problems, where they would have to turn the PC on and off several times to get it to boot through. There was talk of MV issues mainly with Celerons as well. An ABIT rep posted on a newsgroup that they had indeed pulled it for more QA. A search on www.deja.com for BH6 and MV will pull up lots of posts on the subject. I am about to head back there to see if there are any updates on that subject, as it's been a few days since I last checked.

Thanks. Maybe that's why my machine won't warm boot anymore? Will it be OK to flash back to LN? Or is that a dumb idea?

I actually had MV on my board until I heard about the issues. I flashed back to LN with no problems at all. Next time there is a new BH6 BIOS available, I am going to wait a few days to see what issues, if any, crop up. My hope is that they will release a BIOS that supports a PIII 700 Mhz with the 100Mhz bus speed. The multiplier x7 is already in the CMOS, I think, but they still needed to come out with the MV to allow a PIII 600 to operate properly. Fingers are crossed....
