    Hi rubank !!!

Long time no see ... how come ?

Anyway, I had higher scores with PD5.25, don't know what's up with this one, but I guess it is mainly funded in this use of DX7 with non-DX7-optimized ...
I guess they'll be up again with the next build of PD, not sure though.

    Cheers,
    Maggi

Neil: I'd love to know about the long term effects of higher then spec clock rates too! Anyone?

Rock: The difference between stock speed and o/c speed is, for me, the difference between jerky and smooth graphics. I don't benchmark I'm just pretty good at guessing the FPS (up to about 40, beyond that I can't see the difference)

If you aren't seeing any difference either
      a) you aren't overclocking or
      b) you have you eyes closed or
      c) the situation (application) is not fill rate limited
      d) something else I haven't thought of

Stealth: If the screen is going wild but not locking up its your memory.

        I don´t think so, that´s a hell of a fan (12.7x12.7 cm!)
        Rubank...err...actually, yeah!
Have one on my PII333@560 with a home installed heatsink (5"x6"x1.75")thats bigger than the fan.
And one blowing air over my AGP/PCI cards.
Its not THAT hard to install.
        More power to ya.

I just received my G400 Max yesterday from Matrox and I am disappointed with its performance when playing online games. I play battlezone and with the 3D on and resolution at 640X480, the lag is terrible. If i turn 3d off, then it's no problem. Unfortunately, this defeats the purpose of upgrading from a millenium II because with the 3d off, i get about the same performance.

I realize now that it's great if you play 3d games alone vs. the computer but not over the internet. I have an ISDN line with a PII 450. I guess it could be the processor and I'll upgrade to the PIII 600 Coppermine when the price becomes reasonable.

For the meantime, I've decided to return the g400 max and buy the g400 vanilla. I see that many of you seem to be able to overclock the vanilla to max specs or very close to max specs. I bought a new g400 vanilla from a computer company selling on eBay. This will save me about $80.

I've heard that too many fps as well as playing in 32bit can cause problems over the net not just with your end but the other as well, in q2, I've added a line limiting fps to 40 and it works great, ping is always under 140 with a 56k modem

I've been running my retail vanilla at 150/200 since about a week after I got it (mid august I think), with no issues. I never did find it's upper limit, as I'm cpu limited with my P2-350. I had it as high as 310 SysCLK with MGATweak, with no problems whatsoever. I do have a 5ns ram version though, so it is almost a max to begin with...

Above 150/200 (I'm using a s7 fan just 4 xtra safety) I get some nice LSD trips in the 3D Mark chase sky.
The G400 doesn't get warm compared with my old ATI Fury. The memory on the other hand is a different story. I think my OC is memory limited.
By the way, I'm using MGA tweak, not the Matrox util.

                              hey cloudy

the reason that you have low fill rates are that you have benchmarked at 1024*768 @ 32 bit. Maggi did at 640*480 @ 16 bit

                              Cheers,
