  • problem with TurboGL + K7 (Asus K7M / K7-500)

    Hi,

I last week got a Asus K7M + Athlon 500. Everything works fine, AGP, USB, Ethernet, 2D, 3D, etc... except one thing: Turbo GL.

I uninstalled the drivers using the setup utility, rebooted. Clicked cancel when windows detected the card. I went in mgafold/win_530, clicked on setup.

    "G400 drivers - installed"
    "TurboGL - failed"

I redownloaded the drivers, same problem.
I reboot, windows still ask for drivers for "VGA display card"

If I put the openGL32.dll in the game dir, I don't get any improvment, in Q2, I don't see "g400 turbogl", etc...

BTW, the AMD miniport is installed

Anyone have any idea? R0M? And? Haig? anyone?

    Thanks!!

      Huh, whats the 3 in 1 VIA/AMD patch? I don't think I have it

IRQs should be fine, works perfect in D3D/normal OpenGL

      Thanks

If you look in the directory where the 5.30 drivers are, you should see a file named MGATGLK7.DLL This is the TurboGL file that gets renamed to OPENGL32.DLL and added to your game directory. If the automatic install failed, just copy this file to your game directory and then rename it OPENGL32.DLL, then choose the default OpenGL setting in the game itself. The game will see it and use it instead of the regular ICD.

          You need to have :
3 in 1 patch from VIA (should be on teh CD that came with the mobo)
AGP patch for the northbridge chipset (amd751) from AMD's site under support and downloads... Without these your system will never work properly...

Joel - I put the files, didn't get any improvment.

Whats the name of the 3 in 1 patch on the cd? I can't find it...

            Thanks!

I haven't updated my G400 bios nor the Asus k7M. I can't find any info on the K7M on Asus's website (yes, I know it's a oem board)

The link you gave me on AMD's page is for the miniport AGP, I installed this. What I am looking for is the 3 in patch VIA patch Zwicsh talked about... Anyone know where to find it, and what the name of the file is?

                  Thanks!!

OK then. I was going to send BIOS ver 1006, but what the hey, I'm sure Zwisch can figure out what he's talking about and send it to ya!

no ideas where to get the 3 in 1 patch. I got this simply by looking at the FAQ from FIC. I do not have the mobo yet... :

--Q: Please specify all the files downloadable for the FIC's SD-11 Motherboards and also all updates for the VIA's chipsets files? (9/15/99)

A: VIA 3 in one service pack 3.01, AMD chipset patch Ver. 4.45 and Highpoint Xstore driver. Installation procedure as follow:
                      for Win98 user
                      1)Load Windows 98.
2)Load AMD chipset patch 4.45 for north bridge. (additional 1.44 floppy diskette which will be integrated into CD-PRO 4.0)
3)Load VIA 3 in One service pack, if AGP device present check all option, while PCI VGA display card do not check VIA VxD (AGP gart table for VIA chipset).
4)Load dispaly card (AGP or PCI) vendor driver, if resolutions can not go beyond 800X600, specify your monitor type after system restart.
5)Some aged AGP vendors may provide old VIA chipset patch to overrid VIA VxD driver, in case of this reload VIA 3 in one once again for safty.
6)Load Highpoint Xstore driver instead of VIA IDE bus master driver.

                      for Win95 user
                      1)Load Windows 95.
2)Load VIA 3 in One service pack, if AGP device present check all option except VIA miniport driver, while PCI VGA display card do not check VIA VxD & VIA miniport driver.
3)Load dispaly card (AGP or PCI) vendor driver, if resolutions can not go beyond 800X600, specify your monitor type after system restart.
4)Some aged AGP vendors may provide old VIA chipset patch to overrid VIA VxD driver, in case of this reload VIA 3 in one once again for safty.
5)Load Highpoint Xstore driver instead of VIA IDE bus master driver

so that's about all that I can say... sorry

If my memory serves me correctly the fic board is the only board using the via chip (southbridge)The other boards use the AMD chipset.Therfore via 4in1,which is for the via super 7 chipsets would serve no purpose, except to possibly confuse the issue further.
                          I would advise uninstalling them!
Uninstall the drivers for the g400,double check bios settings, advice on the forums was to set agp at 256 mhz. When windows starts and detects g400,choose card from list standard video cards standard vga.Click ok,ignore the warnings.Restart the computer. In diplay settings and with all programs closed excluding explorer and systray, click on adapter-change-have disk, browse and point out where 5.30 is.
Hopefully everything will fall into place.
Greebe, you know more on Athlon's,am I right on the mobo's?By the way cool overclocking device.

Actually the FIC and Asus boards both use the AMD Northbridge and VIA Southbridge, so I don't really know if you would need the VIA 4-in-one drivers (that's what they're called)

I am sure this has nothing to do with your prob...but I had alot of wierd goings-on with my K7/FIC/Gigabyte combo(took the FIC back when I found that there was an issue with the FIC k7 mobo, at least the first ones, and my EMS HSDRAM PC133)...all due to not having the right power supply...I was even getting error messages like OpenGL, etc...and unknown model, when trying to play UT....when I got the "correct" power supply it all went away...realize that none of the errors I was getting with my Max appeared to have anything to due with power...
                              Just a note..
