G400 -> TV SCART problem solved!

Hi!

I'm pleased to inform all of G400 (MAX) DH PAL European users
about the best quality variant of card -> TV connection.

Your TV must have SCART (EURO) socket with RGB as one of input
options.

You should prepare connection cable using this recipe:

SCART signal VGA 15pin

7 Blue 3
5 Blue Ground 8

17 Video Ground 5
- - 12-15 shorted!

optional audio connection:

2 Audio R channel |
6 Audio L channel |-from sound
4 Audio Ground | card

Video signal is used as Hsync and Vsync source.

You should connect VGA connector into "2" marked socket on G400,
instead of original Matrox TV adapter!,
and change "TV settings" in "DualHead" option to "SCART-RGB" position.

With my TV set, I can compare normal video with RGB connection,
using such cable (12m long!). Picture in RGB position of input switch
is much more sharpen, than in video position (and even SVHS, using
separate SVHS cable, which I also made some time ago)!

my compliments and thanks for your successful "experiment".

I'd like an explanation:

when you say "12 - 15 Shorted", are you referring to 12 and 15 pins on SCART or on VGA connector?

Due to my experience, let me suggest to use high quality cables, with all wires shielded one-by-one; each shield is also the "ground signal" related to the corresponding cable.

DON'T CONNECT these shields/grounds all together and to common ground!!!!!

You mean they are connected together to the ground pin, and NOT to the connectors shield. (that is of course grounded to the case)
Am I making any point..

I apologize for my not good explanation; what I mean is that each shield/ground must be connected to its pin; NOT all together, NOT all together to the common ground, NOT to the connector shield.

For example if you look at the zarnow's explanation of connections you can see:
15 Red 1
13 Red Ground 6
it means that you have to connect SCART pin 15 to VGA pin 1 through Red cable, SCART pin 13 to VGA pin 6 through Red shield/ground conductor.
You don't have to connect the "Ground" conductors all together and not to the connector shield.
By the way, if you use a SCART cable (and you should use it), it has also a common shield/ground that must be connected to the SCART connector shield ONLY (not to the VGA connectr shield on the other end of the cable.
