I think that SCompRacer has the right idea. Disable SB Emulation and free up that IRQ 9. Then you have three devices (NIC, sound card, G400), and three good IRQs where to put them (9,10,11). The G400 should be happy on any one of those.

Finally, I can say with 98,76% certainty that I got rid of my problems. I was using Diamond own drivers for MX300 card and I changed them to Aureal drivers and everything seems to work fine.

      I am VERY happy

      Thank you all

Just wanted to say that my MAX has been on IRQ 5, 7, 9 and 10.. Without any problems.. My prob. was the stupid network adapter taking the IRQ14!.. I hate that.. but it all works great now.. Except for my cordless keyboard with a stupid space-key.. returning as we speak..

Congrats, cirrus! (how's achenar??? Sorry, little Myst joke... )

Get the Aureal drivers from here

I'm an MX300 user as well and I find Aureal's drivers and utilities work much better in my system (and take up fewer resources) than Diamond's (which are almost a year old now).

              What? System specs? Oh, yes, right...well, at the moment, it's: Soyo 5EMA, K6-2 333, 256MB PC100 SDRAM, Maxtor 7GB HDD, LS-120, Promise Ultra33 EIDE controller, Diamond Monster Sound MX300, HP 8100i CD-RW, Hi-Val (Nakamichi) 16X 5-disk CD changer, Win98 +SR1...oh yeah, and a Millennium G200 8MB SGRAM.

Does Aureal have a control panel that works with the Diamond MX300? I am using Aureal drivers with the Diamond control panel, since I am unaware that Aureal had a better one.

I have just gotten my G400 Max, and have had some freeze up and display problems.

                Thanks

Diamonds control panel is better, but aureals panel work fine too.

Quick question: How do you disable SB emulation and get irq 9 free???

On the SB live cd there is a manual in pdf format, with instructions how to disable SB 16 emulation.

I'll give this one a shot.

                        Right click on *My Computer*.
                        Select *Properties*.
Click on the *Device Manager* tab.
Find *Sound, Video and Game Controllers* and click on the (+).
                        Select *Sound Blaster Pro Emulation*.
                        Select *Disable This Harware Profile*.
                        Click on the *OK* button.

                        (Now here's the fun part.)

Go to the Start Menu and select *Run*.
Enter the following command and hit enter:

                        edit c:\autoexec.bat

This brings up the MS-DOS Editor and your autoexec.bat file. (Be careful, now.) You should see a couple of lines that look something like this:

                        LH C:\WINDOWS\ASP4DOS.COM

                        SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D3 T4

Type in the word "rem" without the quotation marks so it looks like this:

                        rem LH C:\WINDOWS\ASP4DOS.COM

                        rem SET BLASTER=A220 I7 D3 T4

Save it and exit using the command bar at the top of the DOS console (File>Save, File>Exit).

                        Reboot.

                        Soundblaster Emulation should be history.
