Hi all,
I'm thinking of upgrading / replacing my current video card and the two cards that I am considering are the Millennium G400 MAX and the Viper V770 Ultra. I'm leaning towards the G400 Max but, I'd like to here from some people who actually have one.
I've read several reviews that said the G400 Max is very CPU intensive. Some reviewers listed a PII 400 as a bare minimum spec, and felt that you needed at least a PIII in order for the card to perform to it's full potential. I'd like to know if anyone is using this card on a system with specs that are similar to mine (I've included my system specs below), and if so… how it performs. I use my PC for both business applications and games. My games are flight sims (Combat Flight Simulator, European Air War, WWII Fighters, Star Wars). Is the G400 Max overkill with my current system?
Although I've also read many positive reviews on the V770, I've heard that colors tend to look a little washed out (which is how I feel about my V330) and that colors look fantastic with the G400 Max. I've also read that the V770 performs well with games but, so so with business applications and is really meant for a "gaming system". Also, I'm not crazy about my experiences with the Diamond product that I currently have (infrequent driver updates that tend to be unstable) and since Diamond and S3 have merged I'm wondering how well Diamond will support this nVidia based card.
Another question that I have concerns G400 Max's DVD capabilities. Does it have a DVD decoder? Reviews that I've read are not clear. Does it use hardware or software support for DVD's? Will this card replace my current DVD decoder card… and if not, will my current decoder card work with the G400 MAX?
Any suggestions? Should I "settle" for the V770 (since I'm not planning to upgrade CPU or motherboard any time soon)… or go for the G400 Max (and plan on upgrading my system in the future).
Thanks in advance…
My system specs:
