My only thought, what happens if giga-byte release's fully functional kickbutt windows2000 drivers and also an opengl ICD for w9x that is years ahead of matroxs'. That would cause quite a stir in here.

Hi everyone

Is this going to be a good thing for matrox to be doing,or is there a possibility that matrox may have shot themselves in the foot.

Its a bit early to be giving away there know how,unless they DO have a new chip ready to go in the near future.

I hope so because I think that the speed of development in the 3D graphics chip market is soooooooooo good for the future,as long as you dont do out and upgrade as soon as a new chip comes along.

Lets face it the last few years have been a bit slow have'nt they.

I just hope that the games developers can stay one step ahead so that this roller coaster of a ride keeps its momentum {:O)

But note that you have a Gigabyte mobo in order to be able to use the GA-G400 and that Gigabyte only sells 16MB SH parts. Maybe Matrox hopes to open up to the OEMs.

Don't expect better drivers. Without the full microcode release for the WARP engine, you will never get a really great driver.

This can't be a bad thing, Haig says they sent GigaByte the schematics, but does this mean that they weren't allowed to deviate from the reference design?

The idea of a chip manufacturer being the sole supplier of boards carrying the chip seems very narrow minded to me. It was such a shame to see companies like Canopus sink (moving to Japan is equivalent to sinking in my books). Did I hear that Guillemot have been acquired too? Such a shame.
