    FAST WRITES are part of the 4X spec. G400 can't do 4X transphers, and so by default can't do FAST WRITES. Not all 4X cards will do FAST WRITES either. It involves the CPO writting directly to the VIDEO CARD rather than first to MEMORY then to the VIDEO CARD.

        As Mark says, fast writes involve data generated by the CPU and pushed directly to the graphics card. The G400 doesn't support this - the CPU has to write data to system memory first, and then the G400 has to read it from there.

        Of course, the G400 doesn't support 4x (16 byte) transfers either, but that is a different issue. There is no real connection between 4x *transfers* and FWs - you can do FWs at 2x. However, FWs require an extra signal (WBF#) that only 4x AGP cards support.
