Millennium G400 slow?

I think you really should reinstall Windows after a new motherboard install. Many would advise you to reinstall Windows after a simple motherboard BIOS upgrade.

I'm about due for a reinstall.

A VIA Apollo Pro chipset based motherboard? Holy cow! And you did not reinstall Win9X when you upgraded to that mobo? *yikes* I've seen it done before, and it is really, really, ugly. Your system is begging to be reinstalled. Win9X is just that sucky for changing that much hardware from underneath it.

From some of the benchmarks and reviews that I have seen, the VIA Apollo Pro gets the buzzwords such as "AGP4X" and "PC133", but its performance is still struggling to get up there with a 440BX based motherboard, especially a nicely overclocked 440BX motherboard. The raw memory bandwidth of the 440BX is better than the Apollo Pro, and the AGP GART is better in the 440BX than the Apollo Pro.

Although I think that VIA is excellent competition for Intel, VIA's products are not yet up to the gaming performance of a 440BX. Do not expect to get top notch gaming performance out of that mobo.

Well after playing around with the BIOS and tweaks and different versions of powerdesk, mobo drivers, I'm about ready to give up. I think the problem is the mobo cuz when I changed the jumper on the mobo to auto detect the bus speed the benchmarks jumped to 4000. But I don't know what I did cuz now it's back at 3200. I think I'll send this one back and get an ABIT or Asus.
