That's part of my point. I've NEVER had to go searching for help with a Tyan or Intel board. The only thing I've ever needed was the current Bios files (which I keep on disc). With these boards you can bet 99.9% of the time if your having problems it's something other than your mainboard.

It's funny that people take things so personally, like who made their mainboard. That's why I expect flames. At tech briefings and shows we express opinions all day and no one gets mad. Post here and some act like you just slapped their kid! lol

I'm not molesting anyone's mother! Just talking about opinion's on manufacturers.

Most people that have problems on Intel sites are trying to find Info on specialty OEM boards like those made UNIQUELY for Dell, Gateway, Sony and the likes, which Intel doesn't support. That's the OEM's support problem not Intel's.

Go to Intel and hit the support button and it can't be easier. Even the NG's for Intel are filled with stuff that 80% has nothing to do with a bad Intel Product. Like "Why does Windows show PII instead of PIII?"

Go there and take a peek.

Keep in mind this is a light-hearted post. Just pointing out a few observations of forum life. Don't get personal, and no one else will.

HEY!!! This is getting too serious and not helping out this thread at all.

It would make a good debate for the Soap Box Forum though

FYI...I like both, green and orange boards...

everrettes- Start your own new thread in the soapbox forum, please. You dragged this thread way off topic, and afaik, the problem originally posted (which belongs in this forum) has not been resolved.

Madman- If you D/L PCIList (there is a thread in this forum about it), it will tell you for sure if you are running in 1x or 2x.

Since it was working for a couple of days before it started acting up again...did this problem coincide with the installation of any new hardware or software since this latest install?

And have you looked into the heat related possability? Where you running with the cover off for a few days, then put it back on once you thought it was running stable?

Okay, finally got my system to not crash for a while :P

Kruzin-I did close the case, but I also put an exhaust fan right next to the G400 Max to make sure it runs cool. I installed all my drivers and necessary software when my system was running stable and the only other software that would've crashed my system would be games. Could that be a possiblity? I already tried to scan my HDD for viruses and found none. It seems like this crash is intermittent. If I decide to reboot, it would crash randomly. Like right now, it hasn't crashed in 3 days since I didn't reboot :P

              Thanks for the suggestions guys!

When you say you put an exhaust fan over the g400...I generally think of exhaust as removing air from the case (blowing out). If your crashes come back, and if that fan is removing air, you might try turning it around, so that instead of removing air from the case, you are forcing fresh, cool air into the case, and onto the G400...

Madman, I use Norton Utilities and it catches many problems and fixes them, it is very useful, even for those that think they really know computers well, I suggest that people use it if they use OP systems like Win95/Win98. I thin that you may find your answers that way, also go back over the answers given the first go-around here. Start with the basics, in other words run your system with just just a few cards and add the others one at a time to see if that helps, I would first suggest you use Norton utils, maybe Nuts and bolts might do the same. If its intermittent, that might just find the files that are jerking your system around.

Kruzin--The exhuast fan that I have is one of those that you put in a slot but it's more like a backing. I don't think I'll be able to switch it around :P

Bakwetu--I never installed my Voodoo2..the hardware or any drivers.

Stevenscott--I currently have Norton System works 2000 installed, and not once has it been able to catch my crashes with my video card

The funny thing that I did notice is that I removed the pass-through cable of my Creative DVD decoder card and I'm connecting my monitor directly to my G400. Is hasn't crashed since, and everything seems fine. Only Omikron froze once yesterday, but other than that everything is working. Could that be the problem?? I hope not...I want my DVD :I

I don't think removing the pass-through cable would make a difference, if the Dxr card is still in there.

                        However...
I used to run a Dxr2 with my G200, and found it was really unfreindly to overclocking for me. I could not run at 112MHz FSB stabily with that card in my system. If you are overclocking, the Dxr could be a factor.

Since I got the G400, I have not felt a need to use a separate decoder card. I use the Dualhead to hook up to my 31" TV, run DVDmax mode, and find it works quite well.

                          Kruzin-

So far, my computer hasn't crashed in a few days. This problem is really starting to irratate me. I just don't understand why it's so inconsistant. I really like my hardware DVD card and I don't really like the Matrox DVD. I tried it and although it's pretty clear, some artifacts can be seen where there's heavy action on the screen. I don't have the 2nd monitor so that doesn't really help me with the DVD on the 2nd monitor :P <sigh>
