Every 50-60 seconds, my whole system "hangs" for about 1-2 secs.... It's bugging me!!

Do you set the PnP OS installed:No in your BIOS?

It is really strange that more than one PCI slots share the same IRQ with AGP though you still have some free IRQs...

I went and got the latest drivers for my Promise Ultra 66 controller.... and now it lags less often, but when it does lag, it hangs for a longer period of time, about 2 seconds... and it occurs less often... like i said... :O I'll try moving the modem around and see what happens...

As long as your bios is set to PnP OS yes, moving the cards to different slots will automatically change the assigned IRQ's. Its somewhat random, but generally the further from the AGP slot, the lower the IRQ. The ISA slots are usually IRQ's 3-7 and PCI's are 5-11.

You can try to assign IRQ's through Device Manager, like your modem or sound card to IRQ 5, by unselecting automatic assignment and then selecting an IRQ. But I have found moving the cards usually works out better. Just try to get the Promise card higher than the modem and sound. If its the first card after the AGP slot, this should do it.

Two suggestions:

1. Your other thread re: moving IRQ's around shows that your Primary onboard IDE is either not occupied or disabled. Jorden (correctly) questions this. Whatever you have on your secondary IDE should be moved to your primary onboard. If you are going to leave one unoccupied, make it the Secondary. Agree Jorden??

2. Question: When you installed the new Promise drivers, did you do as they suggested and completely disable the S.M.A.R.T driver? Check the FAQ that I hyperlinked to you above in this thread and delete that vxd from your system...they say it's unneccessary anyway, and the new version could still be causing you some problems.
