  • Problems with OpenGL apps

Well, more specifically, Quake2, and Quake3DemoTest. This might fair better in the gaming forum, but I thought that this might apply to OGL apps as well:

It seems that sometimes, and more often after running a few D3D programs than not, Q2 or Q3 would lock up at a grey screen, requiring a reboot using my reset button. I'm not sure exactly what causes this, but it's really starting to piss me off. I don't want to need to reboot everytime I want to play Quake2 after playing Rogue Spear.

Anyway, I've got a G400Max running on an ASUS P3B-F mobo, and the problem can be recreated on an Abit BX6-2.0. I've tried switching sound cards from an SQ2500 to a Live!, and that doesn't seem to help it. If anyone has any insights, your help would be much appreciated!

No hints, just wanted to say that it happens here as well.

It's set to 32-bit...at 1024x768. The problems seem to happen regardless of colordepth or resolution...

Do you have your CPU oc'd? Some games are more sensetive to this than others, so if it is oc'd you might want to try setting it back to it's default.

Nope...everything's at default. It's a very regular issue, something that is totally predicatble. If I finish playing a D3D game, and I try running Quake 2, it will lock up. Every single time. If I reboot, it's fine....ARgH! It's driving me nutz.

Try turning off bus mastering. It's just a guess but under NT busmastering causes a lot of problems in quake II, making it barely playable.

Larry, did you install the GLSetup(any version) before you installed the Q3 tests? If so, you had the same problem as me. Q2 was running *perfectly* before I installed the damned GLSetup. Stay away from GLSetup!
Get the Power Desk uninstaller from the matrox site and uninstall your PD and drivers. Then reboot, and reinstall 5.30 drivers.
Q2 *should* work like normal again(it did for me at least). Q3 still has the occasional lockup, but it is liveable. I saw in the readme in either GLSetup or Q3 Demo test that G400 has a slight incompatibility that would cause occasional lockups. GL

What is GLSetup? All I am using is the original 5.30 drivers with TurboGL. I wasn't even aware of GLSetup before.

GLSetup is what ID Software asked you to install when you played Q3 Test(not the demo test). Hmm... If that isn't the problem, then I don't know what is the problem...

Ask the "beta boyz" for help in this problem. Create a new topic and in the header, ask Kruzin or Rags to help you out. They can help you out a lot. GL

I also get the same problem. The only D3D game that I run is UT demo and when I then bring up Q3test or Q2, sometimes I get the white screen-then lockup you are describing.

Doesn't seem to happen all the time, but it does happen often.
My desktop is at 1024x768x32 or sometimes
                        1152x???x32. I run UT and Q3 at 800x600x32.
