Just a thought Gareth - do you have Bus Mastering enabled on both your G400 and your 2940UW? I used to have it enabled on both, but (like others on this forum) the G400 starved my I/O of PCI bandwidth.

I disabled bus mastering for the G400 and it seemed to give a better overall performance.

I have a pioneer 6x scsi (303s), g400 max, and teac scsi scsi cd-r and have had no problems with the matrox software, although I do not have a zip drive. Does the problem disappear when you get rid of the zip drive?

Two answer the last two questions at once. It didn't make any difference what type of scsi device was on the line; if there was anything else there it was much slower starting up & froze the machine whilst it was doing so.
With regard to the bus mastering issue, I have no idea. That isn't something that I haver looked into and hadn't noticed any discussions about it previously, so when I get back I will take a look and see. Thanks for that.
Incidentally, I have managed to get an evaluation copy of Powerdvd 2.5 and it is excellent, very fast and much better than the older versions for CPU usage, so although I would rather stick to the free Matrox player if it worked, this is an excellent alternative.
