G400 Windows 2000 proto alpha drivers

Several 'clever' people have mentioned that getting these drivers from a newsgroup is as easy as falling off the proverbial. However nobody has told us which of the 30K newsgroups to look in. I have tried alt.com.periphs.videocards.matrox without success.

I am sick to death of waiting for Matrox
to pull their finger out. YES I know the beta is out but what good is
it without powerdesk, openGL and D3D? I can't even run my monitor at
1280x1024 like I am used to. I am a graphic designer and not having the proper software control over my hardware is a nightmare. I can't understand this control freak
mentality. If I want to screw up my computer with alpha drivers THAT'S MY BUSINESS MATROX!

Well, Its barely beta anymore is it? Just driver updates and a few tweaks here and there. I happen to use Win2k for all my Graphics apps. Being a freelance 3D artist with occasional game graphics a OS that works like NT with Direct 3D is something long wanted and untill now never avaliable.

Unfortunately the driver aren't avaliable for my pain ion the ass G400Max.

Don't get me wrong I love the card but Damn it, It crashes my system all the time in 98 as I have too much hardware and not enough IRQ's.

2x ethernet adapters, network and ADSL, G400MAX, AH2940 U2W SCSI, 2x4.5gb IDE, 1x 8GB Ultra LVD AV drive, Isa scsi card for a scanner with weird cabling, SB live, DC30+ video editing and capture card, wacom graphics tablet tektronics colour laser, HB B/W laser, HP CD writer+ 512mb RAM PII400

Its a mess, and Win2k is REALLY stable, and a lot better than NT4 SP6

just wish I could get my hands on the developers drivers, The real bummer is that I used to have a developers password with @Digital, unfortunately we lost it when we wiped all our PC's and fresh installed all the OS's and software on our machines. I have even written to matrox about it and they have given me a generic password guest something or other not the original one, and of course it doesn't work with the beta drivers.

The whole driver thing is a pain in the ass, I'm not sure how many people would actually use them if they were public anyway, as most people aren't even interested in win2k for gaming generaly.

Why am I using win2K? Because after recently buying a new system I did not wish to migrate from NT4 to win2K in the space of a few months. I normally dont go for a new OS until its been through its first service pack. However considering the reported stabilitiy and the timing for me, it seemed like the better of 2 options. I never expected things to be perfect, however if a driver exists, I would like access to it - and I take full responsibility for my actions.

If you have the generic guest password for the developers' area, it's a matter of a simple e-mail to upgrade that to the G400 developer password... mine didn't work at first either - and they apologized saying it was an oversight.

Try mailing them.

I have that password too, but the devrel newsletter said that access would only be given to the developers that Matrox were working with on games.

Maybe I shouldn't have paid attention to that!

I also emailed for the second level password and was politely told that it was only for developers doing d3d games that had received a card from them.

Anyway, what driver works with RC3? The one posted to the Matrox web page doesn't seem to for me.
