  • G200 disabled?! Help

I'm new here, bear with me.
My powerdesk features don't work, it says that are disabled, but I am not running multiple monitors or in safe mode and I have new drivers.?
Rogue Squadron does not recognize that I have a G200 card. It seems the 3D accelerator is disabled? Why.
    AMD 350, 64 Meg ram, G200 Millenium 8Meg
How can I turn it on. I have reinstalled all drivers and directx and the game.
Unreal only ran in software rendering mode too!
    Any help?
    Thanks, Brian

Make sure that in your motherboard bios that you have 'assign IRQ to VGA' enabled.

Sorry I didn't add specs. I have read a lot here int the last day and done most of the things I have seen. I have a VIA MVP-3 mobo from Tyan. I have upgraded Matrox card bios to 2.3. Loaded the VIA GART and my card does have an assigned IRQ (11). Loaded the miniport driver anyway. Tried PD 4.51, 4.26, 5.20 and 5.25. Tried the RegHacks too.
PD 5.2 and 5.25 don't load Powerdesk on my system or add Matrox to my registry, but the drivers load and card works in 2d.
        USB support loaded.

        Tyan SS7 AMD 350 Via MVP-3
Matrox Mil G200 8 meg AGP
        Windows 98 upgrade 64 meg Pc100
        Bus mastering
        DirectX6.1
        Memorex 24X CD
        Seagate 2.1 harddrive
        56k modem
        Yamaha soundcard

Any thoughts would be helpful. Thanks

Hi, I had the same problems. After a new installation of Win98SE and one bye one installation of the Via-chipsetdrivers, i found out that the VIA AGP 3.55 driver does not work with the Matrox drivers (4.11.01.433). Now my system runs without this AGP driver, maybe a little bit slower but correctly. Any tips for run with Via-AGP driver? IRQ and so on is correct.

          bye, TaiPan

TaiPan, have you tried other drivers than the 4.11 ones?? Maybe the 5.25 or 5.30 drivers will do the job? (Or even the 4.51 drivers)

They can all be found either here on Latest Drivers or here on Previous Drivers and BIOSes

the 5.30 driver does not work, also not without VIA-AGP 3.55 . 4.11 seems to be the only driver works with VIA MPV3 (without AGP). I dont know...maybe the next drivers.
Another thing: I will buy a pci soundcard witch works with VIA chipset and maybe is not so expensive (Soundblaster 16?) Any Tips?

              thanks, TaiPan

Thanks Joel. I had two Bios settings different. Still didn't help. I just downloaded Dx7. Will try this.
I can't do a clean Win98 install as I only have the upgrade version.
Will keep trying, but this is really infuriating. Brian

                    Hmm.. thats odd.
                    I'm using a G200 8mb with PD5.25 on a VIA MVP3 chipset mobo (Epox MVP3G-M) with the 4in1 drivers. (AGP driver ver 3.55 also)
I had no problems with any PD version except for 5.30, since that one doesn't work with and D3D or OGL games with the G200 and most VIA chipsets for some reason.
It almost sound slike a busmastering problem when the card shares an IRQ.
Is your G200 on irq11 by itself?

                      bschymik,
Alot has been mentioned in this post but one other item you can look at is your hardware acceleration. (system properties/performance/graphics). Make sure it is set to full.

You can do a clean install with the upgrade version, all you have to do when it looks for the previous version is put in your W95 cd, let it find that, it will be happy and you can carry on with the installation. If you have any questions, send me an email and I be glad to help.

Thanks for the hints. I do not have my acceleration bar on full. I will try that.
IRQ 11 is by itself except for a PCI steering device. I will have to get back to you guys later as i am now out of town on Thanksgiving vacation, and won't be back to my system until Saturday. Will keep in touch though while at my in laws. Have a Happy Thanksgiving, Brian

Thanks to everyone here, and the prize goes to Jazz for figuring my problem out. Moved the slidebar to full and now everything works, even upped to Pd 5.25 and Dx7.
Now where do I get a benchmark program so I can optimize/overclock and know where I am?
                            Thanks, Brian
