• V-Sync off?

What does this mean and how do i do this?

I have a Matrox G400 regular. Is there a setting in control panels or something? thanks for any help!

V-sync means that the display adapter synchronizes with the monitors refresh rate, and swaps images only when it will affect the whole screen, so not when the monitor is in the middle of updating screen. If you disable V-sync, the swaps will happen asynchronously.

Use the registry hacks from MURC.

It means it may draw your screen quicker with it disabled (higher fps in games) but may also result in "tearing" - I personally have very rarely seen this problem with vsync disabled, except at the beginning of the 3DMark demo. If you are at all familiar with Regedit, the registry settings are now stored in "Hkey_Local_Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Servi ces\Class\Display\000X" where X will be some number. The Settings\DirectX\FlipOnVlank setting controls vsync - 0 is disabled, 1 is enabled. I would just use the reg hacks from the MURC, though. At the very least back up your registry before playing.

Hi Friends,

If my monitors has 100Hz(fV) and 81KHz(fH) in 1024x768 32bit mode, should I disable or enable the VSync? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Get vsync on/off utility:
http://www.murc.ws/Utils.html

My opinion, keep it enabled unless you want every possible fps available. I see tearing in many games when it is disabled. I guess you should try it and see.

Thanks Brian.
So if I have the monitor with 100Hz refresh rate, it means that the maximum possible FPS in a game is 100. Am I right? I think 100FPS is high enough, so it won't be necessary to turnoff the VSync. Please correct me if my perception is wrong. Thanks.

that would be true if 100 hz is what you were at in the resolution that you're playing the game

Thanks DuRaNgO.
I use 1024x768 mode to play the game. In this resolution, my Viewsonic 17 is able to handle 100Hz in vertical refresh rate. Again, thanks alot for your nice response.
