  • G200 still decent?

    fsgray,

If you are concerned about OpenGL apps in NT, then the G200 is probably not the best choice, a G400 would be a better choice. You can pick up SH 16 meg. G400's for under 125 if you look around, and they perform fairly well. If you are looking for the best OpenGL app performance in NT, then the Permedia 3 would be an even better choice, IMO.

    G200 still decent?

I'm thinking of bidding for a G200 on eBay, and I'm wondering if it's still a decent card for the right price. I have a PIII-450 with an i740 now, I'm hoping the new Turbo-GL MCD and new full ICD will make it decent for gaming and professional OpenGL use with NT Workstation. Any advice?

The G200 won't really do justice to your P3 but if you can get it for 75 bucks or less and thats all ya got, then it is pretty nice. Very good image quality, stable, professional drivers and consistant build quality make a nice card. For gaming however, it is fill rate limited and the latest games will be slow on it when all the goodies are turned on. If you are using it mostly for business apps and regular 2d stuff, it is totally fine and it's OGL perf (d3d too) is better than the i740 it will replace. Not as hot either.
      Good luck.

fsgray: that tgl mcd is only for the g400 right now. we're waiting to see if matrox remembers us g200 owners in the driver tinkering.
