  • AGP2 & 5.41

    Hi Folks,

After 2 days of using the new drivers with my
G400 I remembered that, with each update before I had to force AGPx1 because otherwise
the System showed the well known freeze & lines lockup.... Now i was wondering if AGP1x would be the installed setting with the
new drivers - but no pcilist told me I am
running at 2x.... Well, well... I guess I should either thanks matrox or whatever is the cause I did not have a lockup up to now,
or ... mh ... dough :/ I hope it will stay
    this way
Hell am i worried about my next complete
windows reinstall (you know, format hd, install windows, setting it all up again...) - wich is due before this years end ;o

By the way, I am very pleased with the new
    drivers...

Weird, I have been using 2x without any problems up until I installed the 5.41 drivers. Bizarre.

I sometimes met freeze & lines lockup problem before I attached a good fan on the heat-sink of my G400. If I don't attach a fan on it, my G400 at AGP 2x definitely hangs up, even in 2D mode.

My previous fan on my G400 was crystal one and it helped 2D modes and DirectX games stable. However, it wouldn't be helpful for OpenGL games at AGP 2x. Now I have installed another better one, which has better CFM, and I have made sure that the air flow can pass through the center of heat-sink effectively, OpenGL games never hangs again, even in the day time...

ps: I also met this problem even at AGP bus=66.6 MHz ... So I think it's really overheated problem with my G400... In other words, my G400 needs good active-cooling to be stable at AGP 2x... even without overclocking the AGP bus...
