  • To all MSI 6167 and Atlon 500 users.

I have used my G400 (vanilla and Max) with a K7M and MS-6167. I found that the G400 'preferred' the MSI board. I had random lockups/crashes with the K7M, although it now works just fine with a Creative TNT2ultra card.

For use with a G400 I would suggest the MSI-6167.

    ------------------
    Primary System: MicroStar MS-6167, Athlon 500(@750MHz), 256MB CAS2 PC100 SDRAM, Millennium G400MAX , SBLive! Player 1024, Promise FastTrak66 RAID controller, IBM 22GB ATA/66 HDD, 2xIBM 13GB ATA/66 HDD's + some other nice stuff....

Secondary System: Asus K7M mobo, Athlon 500MHz, 128MB Crucial PC133 SDRAM, Creative TNT2ultra, SBLive! Value, IBM 22GB ATA/66 HDD.

    Tertiary System: tbc

the only problem i had was random lockups in some games w agp2x on. forceing to agp 1x stoped this.

ohter hardware problems the msi board dont like some dvd drives i had a cl 5x that win98 would bsod me unless i had a cd in the drive at boot up. don't have that problem with tthe 10x pioneer.

No problems whatsoever with the K7M... (and then you get to OC)
Why would I send my pants to New Jersey?

Thanks for the reply pple, really appreciate it. I have decided to take on MSI 6167 as is uses AMD chipset instead of VIA chipset where VIA always have problem with AGP stuff. I posted this was bcos of the fear of VIA chipset even though that Asus K7M performs better on 6167 but if my G400 can't use on K7M, then whats the use. Sides i don't need on-board sound where i got SB live!

Anyother comments anyone... i am left with 17 hours now...
