  • G400 MAX in Athlon 650MHz Problem

Here's my problem. I recently ordered a 650Mhz Athlon System with a Matrox G400 Max. I can not achieve anything better than 640x480 in 16 colors. With the G400 drivers installed (any version between 5.1-5.4) my computer will only get halfway through boot before restarting. It usually restarts a few seconds after "Verifying DMI Pool..." or something like that is displayed. Anyhow, after it restarts I am given the option of running in safe mode. Whether I chose normal or safe, Win98 starts in 640x480x16. Now, if I change the driver to a standard Super VGA the system will restart without any problems. However, no matter what driver I have installed I get the message "there is a problem with the video adapter" at startup. I have a SoundBlaster Live! Platinum installed as well. I've heard that there may be some conflict between these two cards. Any ideas?

Well if you think it may be a conflict post your IRQ arangment. Second make sure you have all the chipset drivers installed. AGP miniport, VIA PCI and IRQ drivers. all of these drivers sould be installed befor any other device drivers are installed.

I was having "plaid death" on cold bootups with my Athlon K7M and Athlon 700. I downloaded the PD 5 Registry Hacks from the MURC utility downloads and installed the forceagp2x.reg. Forcing AGP 2X mode fixed my problems.

get all the other cards out of the system... be sure to have the G400 running fine first... and yes do not forget both patches for your north and south bridge!
