  • G400MAX & ABIT BH6, screen corrupts and system stops

    Thanks Kids,

I read thorugh all the great info here and sure enough, I too had sufferd the problems in this page.

MY one started after a LAN party, I was convinced I had a virus, Windows boots and then at Random inervals or when asking MGI Photsuit to rotate a piccie 90% The system screen would currupt with green lins running down the screen with lots of blu mash around. The system would continue for about 5 seconds and then halt (ie winamp stopped in the background).

The Solution to this all, the Card was not seated correctly in the mother board, and indeed just like the posts on this forum the card does not quiet fit in, so a quick DIY job and all is EXCELLENT. I've mailed ABIT too about this.

If I can help more pls mail or ICQ me 19008233

I thought it was the case makers and Abits fault???

      Hi BugAlugs,

What kind of case do you have???? With my first ABIT board a BX6 rev 2 and a SuperPower case with a 250W power supply I had the "fit" problem. Then I upgraded my case to an Addtronics 7896A and no longer had the "fit " problem. I still had intermitant problems with the Addtronics case but that turned out to be an issue with a bad power supply. I replaced that with a PCPower & Cooling 350W power supply and all is well now.

I posted these awhile ago in a Thread concerning ABIT boards.

Here's what I think is happening with some cases/mother boards.

One thing that you could make (just to make sure) is to move your G400 to irq-9 (It have sometimes had some affect).

One more thing which will help maximize performance is to move the G400 MAX off of IRQ3 and on IRQ9.

          PNP/PCI Configuraion
          ********************
          PNP OS Installed.......: no
          Force Update ESCD......: disabled
          Resources Controlled By: Manual
          Assign IRQ For VGA.....: enabled
          Assign IRQ for USB.....: enabled
          PIRQ-1 Use IRQ No......: 9
          PIRQ-2 Use IRQ No......: Auto
          PIRQ-3 Use IRQ No......: Auto
          PIRQ-4 Use IRQ No......: Auto

This will work provided the PCI slot 1, below the G400 MAX is empty.

            Hi BugAlugs

too low IRQ number for AGP slot. My ABITBH6 rev1.0 BIOS HN has for G400 IRQ11.
yes and don`t forget clear first PCI slot.

              This one works for me...

              PNP/PCI Configuraion
              ********************
              PNP OS Installed.......: yes
              Force Update ESCD......: enabled
              Resources Controlled By: auto
              Assign IRQ For VGA.....: enabled
              Assign IRQ for USB.....: enabled
              PIRQ-1 Use IRQ No......: 12
              PIRQ-2 Use IRQ No......: 11
              PIRQ-3 Use IRQ No......: 10
              PIRQ-4 Use IRQ No......: 9

I have a usb mouse & no modem so com1 & com2 disabled and resources auto works.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be the powersupplys fault. Try one of the AMD Athlon recommended powersupplys.

                  Thanks Kids

maybe I should rename this link to, check the board is in place first if corruptions happen !

I've moved it IRQ9, I thought the lower the IRQ the better ?

                  oh well
