  • big problems 400max

I am running a 300 PII with 128M I was using a MGA200 and always happy with it. yesterday I got my new G400 DH Max and the trouble doesn't stop. I am getting crashes all the time. I tried all drivers the ones which came with the card and also the new ones I got the new Directx 7.0. Later I even reinstalled windows 98 to get rid of 7.0 nothing seems to help. The card is using irq 11 and only sharing it with PCI steering. I changed the aperture size, I even tried the pd5 hack to force agp 1x. still not good. I flashed my mobo (using an abit LX 6) nothing. I took out my scsi card. the only effect was, that I could watch the g400 techdemo nearly until the end. then again the sys crashed and the screen was messed up.
any more ideas ???? please help me.

well I just read, that it might be a voltage problem. It seems the old mobo don't provide enough juice. So I better get me a new one and also a new CPU.

    any tips for the mobo??

You had to ask Try an Athlon system. K7M or the MSI-6167 MB and use a Globalwin FKK32 or Alpha HS.

What kind of core does you processor have? With the motherboards Brian suggested, your processor might be a bit faster than you think. Many PII 300's and, of course, their Celeron cousins, often ran quite nicely at 450 MHz on a 100 MHz front side bus.
