And don't forget that as far as the Matrox boards they are the only ones doing DME mode AGP, whereas everyone else is doing DMA mode AGP. And furthermore 1X DME mode AGP is faster than 2X DMA mode AGP.

Does any Win9x, WinNT or Win2k version up to date know about AGP4x already? Or do we need yet another Windows for it to get up to speed?

If (new) people would ask these questions somewhere else than on MHW than maybe they could get a good answer and give a good answer, but til that time: "hush, read The Survival Guide and if you missed something go check MURC news."

Now I realize that there isn't, yet, at least...all that big of a deal re: having 4X...BUT. when I shelled out my 265$, with shipping, etc. to Matrox, for my Max....I was under the apparently MISTAKEN assumption that the Max was AGP 4X...yes, it says that it's "Compatable with 2 and 4X" on the box or card that came with it...BUT, as far as I knew, 3 months ago, compatable MEANT it ran 4X!!! I had tried (and returned) the Diamond Ultra which has the jumper to change from 2X to 4X...and like an idiot, I bought into it and believed this slight of hand from Matrox and thought that compatable was the SAME thing as running at 4X....oh WELL...I am waiting for the KX133 mobos to hit, so I can upgrade my Athlon system and finally get some actual USE out of my expensive HSDRAM PC133(which, btw, are 4X)...BUT, I will tell you this...even though I really like my Max...it has wonderful graphics and VERY acceptable FPS...I will be relegating it to my secondary P3 system, and adding, maybe a V5 6000...which should really RUN 4X!!! I know that everyone says that there is no real 4X, yet...and that's there isn't that much difference between 2x and 1X...but I seem to be able to tell when my system reverts back to 1X, which it does, every once in a while....even with "Force 2X" checked in the tweak tab....for an example, in Wintune 98, I get approx 190 Mpixels with the 2X working (as verified with PCI List or CPU ID) and approx 125 or so when it reverts to 1X...so there does seem to be a diff...also, in UT, running at 1028/768, when it starts stuttering, during heavy graphic intensity, so far, it has always been back at 1X...never had it happen while it was still in 2X...a reinstall of 5.41 seems to bring it back to 2X...
Anyway, to be honest, I do feel a bit cheated, that I fell for the "4X compatable" as being 4X CAPABLE!!! I know that I about fell off of my chair when I read that the Max only ran 2X....
Well. I will definetly NOT FALL for this AGAIN!!!

My car's speedometre goes up to 220Kph, but I can't get it to go any faster than 170Kph, what should I do? complain to the manufacturer? NO, let's put a wing on the back of it, that way it will stick to the road better when I go around corners, oh, but that's not going to help the speed thing is it, ummm, I know, how about I change the gearbox ratio's, overclock it if you will, darn, but the differential may not be able to take the extra load. What I'm getting at here, is that performance comes from many aspects, not just the AGP speeds, hell, my GeForce doesn't even have side-band addressing enabled, but if you look at my transfer rate scores, they're still pretty darn good, even compared to your G400's with DME AGP.

It's very complex, and I don't pretend to understand it all, but I wouldn't be expecting miracles from an AGP 4x enabled system.

As Kruzin said, no programs use even AGP 1x to it's fullest potential, so why are you caring?

God Bless you for a realist.

              Carry on! Hehehehe

In the old days of audio, it was:

              "I've got an Amp that's 100 watts.

              Reply

              "I've got an Amp/(dick) that's 200 watts."

              The Difference??? Inaudible.

I feel for the people that paid $300 for a Creative Labs Annihilator last week at Best Buy. Then this week they have the Annihilator Pro for..............$300. Now you can see the difference there. That was a Royal Rip-Off IMHO

                    I got my G400MAX 10 days ago from Matrox and it's a 2x. But my Athlon K7-500 came with a 650 core and 3.1ns L2 chips....the balance of life.

                          Agent,

                          Naughty,Naughty...

We both know that the speed limit in Australia is 100Km/h...

I've had the same problem as you though, my bike's speedo goes to 280 but i've only got 250 out of it so far...

yes, I know this isn't related but what the hell (The worst that can happen is that Kruzin the Krusher will kill my post)...

By the way, My card is only 2x as well...boohoo, i don't care...

Correct most of the time. If you have REAL inneficient speakers, you might hear a very slight difference.

I used to sell high end audio & what people fail to understand also is, to play music twice as loud, it takes approximately 10 times as much power !!<MARQUEE><FONT color=red size=4><EM><STRONG>John<FONT color=blue size=4><EM><STRONG>M.</STRON font <>
