  • G400 multi-monitor and Win2k

    Hi!

    I'm running Win2k RC2 (2128) and a Matrox G400 DH 32MB and I'm using the latest beta driver 5.0 from Matrox.
When I'm trying to enable the DualHead Multi-Display option, it behaves a bit strange IMO.

Instead of installing a second monitor, like Win98 does, Win2k (or the Matrox driver) merely enhances the whole desktop to the other monitor and doubles the screen resolution width.

Actually this works pretty well and I wouldn't even bother, but various problems make this configuration unuseable for me.

First off, my secondary monitor is on the left, but I don't find a option which supports this.
I open the Display Properties window, click on Settings and Advanced and choose the DualHead tab.
Then I check the DualHead Multi-Display radio button.
The Multi-Display Settings field offers two options: a second monitor to the right or below my primary monitor, but there's nothing for a display on the left side. =(

Also, all windows fill both displays, when maximized, so I have to increas their size manually.
When I right click within the second display, the popup menu appears on the right side of the primary display, which is very annoying as well.

Does anyone know if this is usual for the G400 and the current display driver and if it's supposed to be changed, or is there anything I'm doing wrong?
As I said, Win98 works perfectly well with DualHead enabled and I'm having no problems with it at all. I wonder why it does not with Win2k, since the options for multi monitor support seem to be the same.

I hope someone can help me, it will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanx,

    Michee

This is completely normal. I think it's due to limitations of the beta driver. Windows 2000 is supposed to have the same multimonitor features as win98.

This subject has already been covered a few weeks before christmas, but i'll say it again:

1- Win2k does not support multiple monitors from a single card like Win98 - yet. Matrox is currently talking to the Win2k design team for future support in a point release of the OS.

2- Support for the secondary monitor to the right and top of the primary monitor is not supported at this time due to architectural limitations. It might (no promise made) be added in a future driver release if a satisfactory solution can be found.

3- To maximize application windows to a single monitor, check the multi-monitor settings available in the QuickDesk menu.

Hope this helps you a bit!
