Define "down". I just bought a 128MB stick of Crucial's PC133 with ECC for $220. Can't get much better. You can get it w/o ECC for $200.

    And only $7.50 shipping.
Gigabyte P35-DS3L with a Q6600, 2GB Kingston HyperX (after *3* bad pairs of Crucial Ballistix 1066), Galaxy 8800GT 512MB, SB X-Fi, some drives, and a Dell 2005fpw. Running WinXP.

Is anyone here running their PC133 mem @ 133?

I've got some Corsair Micro PC-133 128MB dimms with Micron chips.

Nope, my P3 450 wouldn't go that high. The best I could get out of it was a 124MHz FSB.

My Athlon 700 won't do over 111 with my Asus K7M mobo.

            Hi all,

I want to share with you my last night experience (related to stability pb with K7M and G400 Max).
            0) The previous assumption was: My system is stable @630Mhz (fsb@105) and AGP mode * 1 and L2 cache speed @ 1/3 (anybody can explain this 1/3 factor ?)
            1) I then run wcpuid 2.7 and pcilist 1.30; they both say same thing: AGP*1
            2) playing with dxdiag (DX7.0a-french version) I saw 2 files where missing in DXmedia (ahah maybe it's the reason why...)
            3) I reinstalled DX7.0a, then warm reboot
            4) and ... vertical lines before displaying windows wallpaper...sigh !!! Conclusion: 0) is false.
            5) boot in safe mode; removed 5.41 drv; reboot;set vga display; reboot; set 5.41 drv; reboot; ok; status: AGP current mode = * 2 (damned !); reboot; next current AGP mode = *1 (by the hell!)
            6) then i decided to try to force AGP*2 permanently, using PD5 registry hacks; installed; warm reboot and surprise... it's running ok @630Mhz and AGP*2!
            7) I then did a few warm and cold reboot: all were successfull, and AGP*2 ok.

            My current conclusions are:
            A) My unstability pb is not related to the pure AGP speed by itself, but seems to be related to some kind of choice Windows has to do, to determine what AGP speed to enable before activating display. I'm not neither a Windows specialist nor an AGP specialist, so if I'm wrong please correct. I don't want other people to be misleaded...
            B) According to Psychaos note, next investigation is to get a true PC100 CAS2 ram stick and see what happens...
            C) It's a bit risky to play OEM for common people without a bunch of hardware replacement parts...

            Cheers
            Fabrice

                fabrice,

I was having major problems with cold bootup "plaid death" most of the way into booting W98 with my Asus K7M/Athlon 700/G400. This seems to be a problem with the K7M and G400.

All of my problems were fixed when I installed the PD5 registry hack for force AGP2X.

That is, until I upgraded my drivers from 5.3 to 5.41. I used the Matrox uninstaller, and it uninstalled my PD5 registry hack forcing AGP2X. ugh. I reinstalled that hack and everything is OK now.

speeder, yes, you should go with a 300W PS if you have an Athlon & G400.

                  Thundrchez,

                  you're right !!!
I've backed my fsb to 100Mhz and it's still ok. I've played a bit with Expandable (fsb@100 and 105), and the Matrox tech demo and all went smooth (and nice).

Sorry Speeder, but I don't have a lot of games (and especially some which use TurboGl), so I can't correctly reply...

Thanks to all of you, and happy new year !

                  Cheers
