TurboGL performance between P3 and Celeron

I know this was brought up several times already, but I couldn't find any specific comparisons with the search.....

I am thinking about getting a Coppermine 500E (or any other P3) to replace my Celeron 300A @ 527. I have a question: will the TurboGL for PIII give me a big boost over the TurboGL for PII/Celeron? For example, in Q3A or UT games (especially with A3D on). Or should I wait for a total upgrade to a K7 with KX133 chipset for my MAX?

BTW, my motherboard is the somewhat notorious Abit BX6 2.0.

not a big boost, but a very big boost ...

Honestly, that revised L2 cache on the coppermines brought Intel back into competition with Athlons and if you use the search engine of this BBS and hunt for 'benchmark', you'll find plenty of posts that can give you an idea of what to expect.

My recommendation is that you should grab one of those SECC2 Coppermines (P3-600E for example) for 100MHz FSB, plug it in and let it fly ...

If you're willing to overclock, I've been reading, and OC'er really like the 500E. Seems to hit about 650 stably with standard cooling. Might be worth looking into some more.

The 500E seems to be available only in FC-PGA flavor and that would require a Sloket-2 adapter, which would reduce the capablities of OCing ...

I think the only real option for Slot 1 users is to take the 600E which has SECC2 design

I tried the IWill sloket II and the 500E. No problem to get to 620 without any voltage adjustments, a little tweak or two and it runs at 665 no problem. I had to really hunt around to find one though. Found mine for $240 US including shipping from www.techstore.com and it easily beats my 600B .
