      Courage, 3D!

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You've gotta at least TRY the thing. IRQ's are just settings...there's usually a way around the problem, and many different ways to do it. For starters, post here a complete listing of your IRQ's at present, along with a listing of Hardware cards that are plugged in to the main board, especially what video card your compaq is using now, and what other peripherals you're running. (ex. are you using USB? SCSI? etc.) Also give us your BIOS version and vendor (Award?, Phoenix? etc.)

If you need help with any of this jargon, don't be shy...the stupid ones are those who don't ask and just give up!

        Let's go for it 3dNewbie.
Like Bixler said write down the current IRQ assignments. Then remove all the previous video card drivers. Check the windows/system folder and your registry for any remains from the previous card's drivers. Install the G400 and write down the "new" IRQ assignments.
And then get back to us.

Your Bios version will be the string of text that first appears when you turn on your Computer. Keep your finger near the pause/break key and stop it from scrolling through all the setup stuff and right the info down. It'll be something like AWARD Bios Ver. 4.51 or something like that.

Take the case off your Compaq and tell us also whether you video is a separate card, or just a cable from the Motherboard to the connector on the back of your Comp.

Watch out 3d...We've been here before .

ALPBM and Maggi: this AINT gonna be another McRhea thread. Unless...Hey 3d!!Do you have a girlfriend?

                  Please God.

3D: Check to see if you have any USB devices hooked up in the back of your Comp. USB is the little square odd looking connector. From the diagram I'm looking at, it looks like it'll be somewhere near your printer connector, and there will be two of these... Is anything plugged in to USB 1 or USB 2?

And Get your manual out and get familiar with what it takes to enter your BIOS settings. You'll find something on this in your manual.

Are all Compaq's set up with this kind of mess???

                      Hi 3d,

yes it's best if you uninstall the old drivers before updating. You need to get the Powerdesk Uninstaller and the PD5 Registry Hacks files from here:
                      http://www.murc.ws/Utils.html
Just get those two files for now.

Run the PD5 Uninstaller and reboot. When Windows boots up you'll get the 'install new video adapter' window. Install the Standard VGA adapter and reboot. Then upon rebooting install the new Matrox drivers.
In oher words it takes three re-boots to use the uninstaller properly. This is much easier than uninstalling manually.

Get back to us afterwards so we know how your doing

                        Thanks!

                        I have Matrox PowerDesk 5.11.012
But all the other versions listed are 4.xx

So what I need to do is:

-use the uninstaller, reboot, select VGA, reboot, install new drivers, reboot

                        -Install Turbo GL
                        -Flash BIOS

Btw: Thanks for all the help
