  • Need help updating Matrox DVD software player

Several posts have said that to update the Matrox DVD (Divicore model) player all you have to do is replace dvdpld32.dll in the Windows\System subdirectory with a newer version from a more recent Cinemaster release. When I do this, the player runs, but the opening screen is green cubist mishmash. Only the original version of this .dll seems to work.
I have a G400, and the version of the software DVD player that came with the card is 1.0.29.5356.

    Any ideas? Thanks.

I have heard that the version that came with the card is as good as the latest if not better. If you are having trouble with the quality from the original version then the latest maybe what you need but if the quality is fine then the best thing for you to do is to keep what you've got and live an easy life.

      Hi there claw...

as birdy said, the original engine that came with the DVD player is in most cases the best one... The only reason you would want to change the engine is if you want to avoid macrovision protection... I believe Cinemaster engine 1.0.28. hasn't got the macrovision and also one newer version but I could be mistaken... If you don't intend to record DVD movies on your VCR 1.0.29. engine version will serve you just fine...

For playback you guys are right. But not for accessing other features on the DVDs.
        Any ideas?

I am very pleased with the output quality of my standard Matrox player and engine (1.0.29.5356), but it has problems accessing the extra features on "The Matrix" DVD (region 2).

          Should I upgrade the engine to 1.0.32, 2.0.35 or 2.0.36 ?

Which is better without losing quality?

          Thanks,

2.0.36 works fine with my player...
I can access all Matrix Features (Code 2).

Have any of you been able to update your Matrox DVD player by simply replacing the single dvdpld32.dll file? This doesn't work for me.

2.0.36 doesn't work for me - at all.
                  2.0.35 works great though.

I installed the contents of the whole zip file for 2.0.35 and everything works.

                    Thanks for your reply.

One question: If you install the whole Cinemaster package to upgrade the Matrox DVD player, don't you lose some or all of the customization for the Matrox card? That's why I was interested in figuring out how to upgrade by replacing a single .dll file.
