Yup, I agree that that sucks. There probably is some kind of patch out there to disable the macrovision. However, it is directly tied to the stock Matrox DVD player.
When I used the Zoran SoftDVD that came with my DVD drive, it does not have the Macrovision protection and it works with the DVDMax. I don't know the full list of other DVD players that do not incorporate the protection. The Zoran SoftDVD quality is definitely worse than the the Cinemaster engine that Matrox is using.
The answer is posted a few times on page on of the Desktop Video section.
But look for it don't repeat DON't reask the question. It makes them cranky.
