IRC Channel FOr This Forum

how about a irc channel dedicated to all the users of this forum..

i've setup a channel on dalet #matroxusers dedicated to all the members of this forum.. and links and URL set for this site.. http://www.murc.ws/ what's a better way to get interactive... members and newbies get help and discussions... about this forum and on the spot... the URL is set to this site so if any newbies on the channel would be directed here... also.. senior members here if ya want help manage the channel... post a reply here on this forum stating so for ops ... thanx.. we need all the help we can get...

Problem is, IRC is loaded with lurkers who live to make your life miserable. If given half a chance, they will infest and take over the channel with bots.

Then the lurkers who actually lurk there all day just ruin it for everyone else. They flame your head off for asking the simplest question, and ridicule you for being so naive as to buy a Matrox product.

As much as there are MURCer types, there are anti-murcers, whose goal in life is to make the biggest arse out of themselves as possible. They have shown up in every IRC channel Matrox people have tried to run. Because of these lowlifes, MiRC rarely gets fired up on my system these days...

I have to agree with you on that one Kruzin.
For me IRC is only slightly less useless than ICQ.... I hate that little Uh-oh! voice. Grrrrr.

I've never seen any sort of constructive dialogue come out of IRC - closed or moderated forums / newsgroups are much more useful. Not so much because of the lack of interest, but due to the neverending barrage of flames etc...

hmmm, our channel on irc.enterthegame.com has never been taken over. Maybe you should have it set up on there. The key is to not have chansev oped

Hey dolce... I am all for it, I've been an irc fan a year or two ago and spent quite a lot of time being an op on two channels on undernet... You can count me in for any help you want, but keep in mind that irc is a more direct way of communication than forums, and as such doesn't suit everyone or every purpose.

Kruzin, I disagree with you. I can tell you that channels on undernet are quite takeover-proof. Sure, it can be done but is it worth it? And as for flamers... that's why ops exist so they can kick/ban user if they are too full of sh*ts Isn't that also what moderators should be doin'
