Under Win9x the VESA support is handled by PowerDesk (some minor errors, but generally OK).
Under pure DOS, the card has support for only basic modes in onboard BIOS. For a bigger set of VESA modes you should install the driver coming with BIOS package.
There is also another, non-Matrox solution, available for download from MURC.
