The fact that Agent31 is using a "Professional Series" Viewsonic with BNC cables might explain the difference. Then again he isn't comparing two systems sitting next to each other. And I'll bet he doesn't live like two minutes, or less, from work. Ergo there is some time lapse to factor into his evaluation.
I was reading a comparison at Anand's site for various graphics cards on Athlon systems. It was their opinion that the 2D difference was marginal, but they gave it to the G400. And personally, for 32-bit 3D performance the difference on faster Athlon's isn't really that great.
Dentaku perhaps you should also factor in some of the other features the G400 has, like Dual-Head display. Since you use photoshop and illustraitor frequently this is a feature that I should think would be of interest to you. Just my 4ยข worth!

Oh, and I was using a professional series Sony(GDM-F400--Thanks Ford!) with BNC as well =)

Rags is 100% correct on his first point, we're all wrong. (and Rags, it is a little bit difficult not to take any offence to what you said, but I'm not one to hold a grudge )

Dentaku, here's about the most useful thing anyone is going to tell you in regard to this issue - don't take our word on which is best, try and check them out for yourself! I appreciate that there are difficulties involved with this, but it's the only way you're going to be satisfied in the long run.

All you'll get from us is a lot of bickering about sensibilities and silly stuff that's not going to help you on a subjective issue such as this.

I hope this was helpful!
Look, I know you think the world of me, that's understandable, you're only human, but it's not nice to call somebody "Vain"!

If my Viewsonic G771 had BNC connectors I would probably be less reluctant to get a GeForce.
I've benen reading stuff that some people who actually work for companies that make GeForce cards have been saying and they DO understand the resons why certain video cards might be less crisp and leave text ghosting but they all have large monitors with BNC connectors which seem to help allot.
(they also admit that they take more voltage than any other card)

The problem isn't in the GeForce chips themselves but it has more to do with how well the entire card is built.
I think I even read a post on a newsgroup form soeone at Creartive Labs and he admitted that it was very possible that every GeForce card they make has problems at high resolutions with "regular" monitor cables.

Hopefully some manufacturer will make a totally "non-reference" board with better quality parts that doesn't need a BNC connection to look good above 1024X768.

I'm never gonna have a chance to demo one at a store because the stores around here never keep anyting in stock. They just order stuff when someone wants to buy it.

The ELSA cards are complete departures from the reference design, and just happen to be a tad less expensive than the others in my neck of the woods.

People with Creative (and Leadtek) cards do seem to be experiencing image stability problems at high pixel clocks, but it is a card - not a chip - issue.

Make their OWN cards?

You mean like ATI? Or 3dfx? Or S3, or 3dlabs, or Matrox or VideoLogic?

I have no idea why so few companies do that...
